Can't Hide Our Hound Pride!
Howdy Hounds!
Thank you to everyone that supported our school for What-a-burger spirit night! Any excuse to not cook is always a win for me....especially when it directly benefits our school. :)
Congratulations to our students that participated in Science Olympiad on Saturday! We could not be more proud of your hard work and dedication over the past several weeks. Thank you to our Science Olympiad sponsors, Alyssa Jucker and Josh Jucker, as well as our teachers that served as event coaches!
We had a fantastic house pep rally on Friday. Congratulations to our Golden Paw Recipients. We want to send a special shout out to Brooke Maier, who was selected as our 22-23 Volunteer of the Year. Ms. Maier serves as our FOH President and continuously pours her heart into our school. Our school wouldn't be the amazing place it is without all of our wonderful volunteers.
This week, we celebrate Read Across America Week. Please see the flyer below from Ms. Jurkowski with a calendar of fun dress up days!
On Tuesday, the LCISD School board approved school start times for the 23-24 school year. Huggins Elementary is in TIER B, which means our time will be 7:45am-3:15pm. Below, you will find a video where Dr. Nivens, our superintendent, explains the changes to school start times for our district. The board will be voting on the calendar at the next board meeting.
Here's to a fantastic week!
Sincerely,
Bethany Cunningham
Principal

Class Attendance - Repeat
It's hard to believe that we are half-way through the school year, but we know our Hounds are working hard and will have a fantastic second semester. To help ensure we have the best semester yet, we will be celebrating the attendance of our students. Student attendance is a powerful predictor of positive student outcomes, and we want to ensure we have our Hounds here at school so that we can best support them. We will be looking for classes that have 100% attendance on a given day. Classes will have opportunities to earn rewards for whole class attendance, along with badges of pride to display on their classroom doors. We have compiled a list of incentives that classes will be able to earn as they achieve days of 100% attendance. These days will not have to be back-to-back, but an overall accumulation of 100% attendance days.
5 Days – Class Hat Day
10 Days – Class PJ Day
15 Days– 15 Minutes Extra Recess
20 Days- Popsicle Party
25 Days– Pizza Party
30 Days– Bingo Party
40 Days– Movie and Popcorn
We look forward to celebrating our school attendance with our students.

Smart Tags - Important! (repeat)
Dear Lamar CISD Parents,
We are requesting every student bus rider be prepared to show their Smart Tag identification badge when they board and exit transportation starting on Monday, November 28, 2022, the first day we return from the Thanksgiving Break.
The Smart Tag ID badge is a safety tool for students, parents, and drivers. The photo immediately identifies the student, and the vertical or horizontal orientation indicates secondary or elementary grade levels. The badge allows parents to check the exact times when a student boards and exits the bus. Additionally, the Parent Portal gives users the ability to see where the bus is in live time.
The Elementary and Secondary Student Handbooks do require students to have their Smart Tag ID badge when they board and exit the bus (see p. 64 for Elementary; see p. 51 for Secondary). Based on the student’s grade level, there may be consequences for a student who does not show their Smart Tag for 5 consecutive days (5 days for Secondary). We encourage parents to visit our district website for more information on Smart Tags in the student handbook (https://www.lcisd.org/departments/).
For the safety of our students and staff, we want all bus riders to follow this rule and may enforce a “No Tag, No Ride” rule in the future. If your student has not received their ID badge, please contact your campus directly. We appreciate your understanding, and we look forward to working together in making sure all students arrive to school and get home safely every day.
Yours in safety,
Lamar CISD Transportation
