Here's What's Going On In Room 18
UCLA Bruins
Common Core Math
Parents should realize that math is no longer just numbers (algorithms). Math involves making conceptual models and writing about the process students use to solve complex problems. I would encourage ALL parents to visit the SBAC site and see assessments that all sixth grade students will take in the spring. To enter the site, just click sign in (don't fill out the form) , SELECT 6th grade, then Click YES. You will see 6 examples that will mirror the SBAC. Pay particular attention to the performance tests, they are really involved and require higher level thinking skills.
What can you do to help your child? Drill them on multiplication facts. Talk to them about how you use math to pay bills, shop or do your job and utilize whatever it takes to help your child understand. An excellent link is Khan Academy. Sal Khan is amazing!
The good news is.....all students are capable IF they practice and persevere!
