Newsletter Week 3 Term 2

Huirangi Primary School 17th May 2021

Kia Ora Koutou, Hello Everyone!

It has been a real pleasure to meet you all. I am still busy putting names to faces, but everyone has been so warm and welcoming. Thank you!

Over the weekend I went to Napier and ran the Hawkes Bay Half Marathon. It was such a beautiful sight running through the vineyards and orchards alongside 5000 other people during Autumn!

We are a busy school this week with Life Education taking place for all classes. This is a great opportunity for you to follow up at home with your children about their visits to the Life Ed classroom. Each class will have a different focus for the week:

He Puāwai and Room 1 will be learning about friendships, Room 2 are learning about being healthy and happy, Room 3 will find out about kindness and empathy and Room 4 will be learning how to use different and appropriate strategies when interacting with others.

Please note we have a Teacher Only Day on Friday 4th June. Please do not send your tamariki to school this day. The staff will be having a refresher course on using our school management systems and our new active boards that were installed last week.

Our school website is currently being upgraded. I hope to be able to share the 'swish' new version with you all later on this week. Keep an eye on the app!

Ngā mihi nui,

Person of Character

During the course of the school day children are awarded POC cards for many reasons - completing homework tasks or caught being good, being just two reasons. The child then places the card into their House box and at assembly cards are drawn out and the child receives a Duffy book as their reward. So, over the last few weeks the following children's names have been drawn:- Axl Hewson for having his clothing named, Harper Jupp for super tidying up, Tane Hall for making an awesome start to the day, Allie Pokere & Indie Cragg, both for fabulous homework, Izzan Bradley for great reading, Jordan Anglesey for being a great 'talk partner' and Person of Character, Isaac Downer for being a great 'talk partner', Maria Monroy Felix for super reading, Neko Kettle for working hard, Max Weston for helping others, Jamie Taylor for being very helpful and Rylan Marx for being a good friend, Maddeline Pearce for her hard work, Sophie George & Roxanne Ngatai for amazing reading, Jahvis Lilly, Tane Hall, Amali Ryan & Conner Alldridge for completing homework tasks and Max Weston for following instructions. Congratulations everyone!

Huge thanks to families who supported the 'Jucies' fundraiser. The next meeting is this Wednesday [see upcoming events] and the H&S group are trialing meetings at a slightly later time so that hopefully more parents can attend as many of you come early at pick-up time. So, pop up to the staffroom - even if it is only to say 'Hi - I can help every now and then!'

It is always organised chaos on photo day! We wait now until PhotoLife Studios send out the 'shoot keys'. Once received these will be sent home to you and from there you can go online to order photos if you wish.
