Below are some school highlights for you to be aware of...

A Note from Mr. McKean

Greetings Eccles Community!

We are hitting a stride with school and, again, are really enjoying having our students with us in person. If anything has become constant over the past two years it is that nothing is constant. We have seen wave upon wave of required changes and we once again are facing mandates that require some adaptation from us. I continue to marvel at the flexibility and willingness of our amazing staff. They have taken on an attitude to really get things done no matter what it takes. Read below to see some of the adjustments that will go into place next week.

Warm Regards,
Mr. McKean

Big picture

Arrival - All Students Front Doors!!

I appreciate your patience with the arrival process so far this year. I know that it has not been entirely convenient for our families. As I stated earlier this year, my goal was to start out ’tight’ with some of our procedures and loosen them as we were able to see how things were going.

I am pleased to say that I believe that our Arrival process is one area in which we can relax some of our procedures.

Beginning tomorrow, all students may now enter through the front doors!

- Buses will still drop off in the front of the school. All bus riders will walk directly to the front doors.
- Car drop-off will still occur in the West parking lot. The main difference will be that we want students to be dropped off at the sidewalk nearest NW 5th - the street that fronts our school. Signs will be posted. If all else fails, look for Mr. Bowman. He will be positioned where you should drop off your kids.
- All students will still be greeted and visually screened at the front entry.
- Parents walking up to drop off students should do their best to mask and socially distance.

Recess - New Mandates

Beginning on Monday we will be following the newest guidelines for when we are outside by implementing the following practices.
- Staff must now wear masks and distance 6 feet.
- Students will be encouraged to either wear a mask or distance 6 feet during recess.

Fire Drill

We will be practicing a school-wide fire drill with our students tomorrow morning. Our teachers have talked with students about what that process looks like today. Please feel free to discuss this with your student(s) either before or after our practice.

Digital Learning

We are close to having iPads in the hands of all of our students. Digital learning is an important part of how we do school anymore. My intent is that we practice frequently with our iPads what our students should know to access learning at home. This is to help our students be prepared in the event that they must spend any time learning from home this year.

Playground Update

Good news!! Our playground equipment has arrived! It is not much to look at right now all wrapped up and sitting on pallets but we are one step closer to having an amazing new play structure for our students!

Volunteer/Visitors Update

With the ever shifting guidance, we are still pausing on having volunteers and visitors at the school. We all look forward to the time we can once again benefit from all of the parental support that we get from our parents. We are prioritizing keeping school going in person, however, and want to make sure that we adhere to all of the safety guidance that will continue to allow us to do so.

Keep in mind that once we have volunteers back in our schools, they must be fully vaccinated, submit proof of vaccination and wear masks during their time in the building. In addition, we will be limited to one volunteer per class per day. Thanks in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
