Reminders for afternoon dismissal
- School dismisses at 3pm. 6th graders are picked up at the front of the school. 7th graders are picked up by the baseball field (enter at West Pine Elementary School). 8th graders are picked up in the back parking lot (staff parking area). Please note: once the 8th grade afternoon carline is at capacity, those cars will be asked to remain in the regular line until a staff member directs them to the back of the school.
- 8th grade cars are asked to use their blinker. This alerts the staff member on duty directing traffic that you are turning right.
- 6th/8th carline: All cars are asked to stay close to the curb in the bend near the split in the road so that the 8th grade cars have enough clearance to exit safely.
- We will have staff members on duty at each of our afternoon carpool areas. Cars will be asked to pull forward and students will walk to the car. Please do not stop when you see your child; our staff will direct all cars to keep pulling forward to get as many students loaded in order to keep our lines moving.
Late Arrivals
- Students arriving after 8am must sign in at the front office. A parent/guardian must accompany the student to the front door and ring bell for assistance.
Early Dismissals
- We understand that doctor/dental appointments and other appointments cannot be avoided. However, in order to protect the instructional time and limit class disruptions, no early dismissals will be allowed after 2:30pm. Students will not be called out of class early until the parent/guardian arrives to school. Any changes to your child's afternoon ride home must be shared with our office staff prior to 2:30pm.
Instructional Fees
- School fees are $40 (technology and instructional). There may be additional fees for encore classes. Those fees can be paid online, or your child can bring in to school and one of our staff members will receipt. Families may submit a request for waiver or reduction of fees form if they feel they cannot afford to pay these fees. This form is available through our bookkeeper, Ms. Campos.
Face Coverings
- Students, staff and visitors are required to wear face coverings in the building. No face coverings are required while outside. The BOE will revisit this decision at the 10/4 board work session. Face coverings must be worn from the top of the nose to the chin.
Student Medication
All medication, prescription and/or over-the-counter drugs that parents want given at school must have a physician order accompanying the medication to school. The Request for Medication Administration in School Form (Spanish) must be filled out in its entirety, on one sheet of paper with the front page being the physician order, and the back, the parent authorization. Medication of any type must be brought to school by the parent/guardian in the original container with the Request form Medication Administration at School completed by the physician and the parent/guardian.
7th Grade Immunizations
7th grade students are reminded of the required immunizations. North Carolina Law requires a Tdap booster vaccine and meningococcal vaccine for entry into the 7th grade.
EF Tours Informational Meeting
Hi West Pine Middle School Students and Families,
Your student is invited to join us on a once-in-a-lifetime international travel experience with some of their peers to Rome, Athens & the Greek Islands during the Summer of 2023!
There is incredible growth that comes with seeing the world, exploring new places and experiencing new cultures - and I’m excited to bring that opportunity to your family and our community. We are starting a travel program with Crain’s Creek Middle School, which is run by former West Pine teacher, Toni Giangrande!
This trip will fill up fast, so please join my informational meeting to learn the following.
- How this opportunity will benefit your child?
- Why now is the right time to start planning?
- How your investment will be protected?
- What we’ll see and experience on our trip?
- How we’re keeping this safe and affordable?
Our virtual meeting will be held on September 13th at 6 P.M. There are limited spots available, so don’t miss your opportunity to reserve your seat. One parent must be in attendance.
