Manitou Springs Middle School
Friday, April 28st 2023
Dear Middle School Families,
Our staff is excited about the end of year learning and fun that occurs during the month of May. We have been encouraging our students to end their school year on a high note by reminding them to make good choices, be kind, work hard, and practice good manners such as saying please and thank you, holding the door for others, and lending a helping hand when someone needs support. We have great students at MSMS and our team works hard to reinforce these positive messages.
Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up May 8th - 12th. I encourage you and your child to send a note of appreciation to any teacher who has made a positive impact this year. These positive notes mean a lot to our staff. Please see below for a list of teacher emails. Our Parent Action Committee (PAC) also has a signup for parents to bring cookies to show their appreciation. Feel free to sign up!

Music Jam!
but we have 4 guitars, two keyboards, drums, percussion, and multiple amps available. At jam, we go around in a circle taking turns suggesting
songs, and Mr. J helps the group arrange the song and is prepared to give students resources to help them practice their instrument at home.
You are not required to sign up or stay for the entire jam-hope to see you there :)

Mustang Tech Tips!
Types of scams and how to avoid them
- Phishing scams: These scams involve someone impersonating a trustworthy source (such as a bank, government agency, or popular website) to trick you into providing personal information like your login credentials, credit card information, or social security number.
To avoid phishing scams, be wary of any unexpected emails, texts, or calls that ask for personal information. Verify the legitimacy of the request by contacting the company directly through their official website or customer service line.
- Investment scams: These scams involve promising high returns on an investment opportunity, but in reality, the investment is either fake or non-existent.
To avoid investment scams, be skeptical of unsolicited offers and do your research on any investment opportunity before handing over your money. Check the credentials of the person offering the investment and never invest more money than you can afford to lose.
- Lottery and sweepstakes scams: These scams involve being notified that you've won a large sum of money or a prize, but in order to claim it, you have to pay a fee or provide personal information.
To avoid lottery and sweepstakes scams, remember that you can't win a contest that you didn't enter. Be skeptical of any unexpected notifications and never provide personal information or payment to claim a prize.
- Charity scams: These scams involve pretending to be a charitable organization to solicit donations that never actually go to a good cause.
To avoid charity scams, research any organization before donating and look for legitimate charities with a proven track record of using donations for their intended purpose. Be wary of high-pressure tactics or requests for payment by wire transfer or gift card.
- Tech support scams: These scams involve someone posing as a tech support representative and claiming that your computer has a virus or other problem that they can fix for a fee.
To avoid tech support scams, never give control of your computer to someone who contacts you unsolicited. Legitimate tech support companies will not contact you out of the blue and will never ask for payment upfront.
Overall, the key to avoiding scams is to be skeptical of unexpected offers or requests, do your research, and never provide personal information or payment without verifying the legitimacy of the request.
