Policy Reminder Regarding Emergency School Closings
Please be reminded that in the event of a threatening hurricane or significant storm, St. Joseph Catholic School will follow the decision of the Polk County Public Schools in regards to school closings. Diocesan policy states that if the public schools in our county are closed, we must also close. However, please be reminded that we may reopen before public schools. Announcements will always be made via email or text, and on our school Facebook page, etc.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation in both morning and afternoon carline. The efficiency and speed of carline will continue to improve as everyone becomes comfortable with the procedures. A couple important reminders to assist with carline:
- Absolutely no students should get out of their cars outside the gate during morning carline.
- All students should be dropped off and picked up in carline.
- All parents are asked to remain in their cars during both morning and afternoon carline.
- Gates remain closed throughout the day to ensure the safety and security of all students. Gates will not open for afternoon dismissal until 2:40pm. You can help by not arriving to campus until after 2:40pm. Additionally, cars waiting outside the gate should form two lines for both morning and afternoon carline.
- When exiting the school parking lot, consider turning LEFT onto Unity Way. You can access 1st Street by turning left onto Unity Way and then right.
- Remember that cars are not permitted to turn left from Unity Way onto Avenue M NW. Please follow posted signs. Police officers will be present to issue tickets.
Information and forms went home in the white envelope last week for our Walk-a-thon. This is a major fundraiser for PTO, and we are looking for everyone’s support. You can pledge online if you know the student’s name, teacher, and grade by going to https://app.99pledges.com/fund/walkathonSJCS.

VPK Sign In Policy
St. Joseph Catholic School feels blessed to be able to offer our families of our four year olds free VPK through the Early Learning Coalition. We are happy to offer VPK without compromising any of our programs or services for our four year olds. Truly, the only negative part of VPK, that we have worked to overcome, is the requirement that all VPK students must be signed in and out daily. We remind you that this is not a SJCS policy, but a requirement of the Early Learning Coalition. Students may not enter the VPK classroom until they are signed in. If a parent forgets to sign a VPK student in to school, the child will remain in the office until a parent can come sign the student in. Please know that the sign in sheet is in the parish center (cafeteria) from 7am-7:30am daily for those students who arrive during before school care. Teachers are in the parking lot beginning at 7:30am to make it more convenient for parents to remain in cars and sign in their child. If you have any questions, please speak to your child’s VPK teacher or call Mr. Reilly. We thank you for your cooperation as we uphold the policies and procedures of the Early Learning Coalition.
Please be reminded that according to our Cellular Phone Policy on page 4 of the Parent/Student Handbook, Smart/Apple watches are NOT permitted. Thank you for your assistance with this.
Our School Store will be open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 7:40-7:55am outside of the art room. Supplies for sale include: SJCS pencils, highlighters, healthy snacks, etc. All students are invited to make purchases.
Lots of fall events and field trips are on the calendar for the next couple months. Families are reminded that all chaperones are required to be fingerprint cleared through the Diocese of Orlando. There are two steps to the process: watch a Safe Environment Video on the Diocesan website (orlandodiocese.org) and be fingerprinted. This process takes several weeks, so it’s important to get started right away. Please call the school office if you have any questions. When you need to enter a code for fingerprinting, the person to contact is Mr. Reilly.
School Dismisses at 3:05pm
Please remember that the school day ends at 3:05pm daily. For the first eight days of school, classes have come out to carline early since it is expected that carline will take longer at the beginning of the school year. Since Monday, August 26th, classes have been coming out at 3:05, our normal dismissal time. Afternoon gates open at 2:40pm. Please plan accordingly. We appreciate your cooperation.
PTO Meeting and Family Math Night
All parents are encouraged to make plans to join us for our PTO General Meeting and Family Math Night on Tuesday, September 10 at 6pm. Students will meet teachers in the science lab and library where they will enjoy games relating to math. The PTO meeting will be held in the parish center. Following the meeting, parents will join their children to enjoy math games.
Blue Mass for First Responders
Bishop Noonan will celebrate the Blue Mass for first responders on Friday, September 27th at 12:10pm at the St. James Cathedral in downtown Orlando. We are looking for students who can represent SJCS by attending this mass with their first responder parent/relative. This will be considered a field trip, students will not be marked absent. However, transportation will not be provided. If your child is interested in attending this very special mass, please contact Mr. Reilly at email@example.com.
Father Jimson Meets with SJCS Alumni at Santa Fe
Father Jimson said Mass this week at Santa Fe, and then met with our SJCS alumni.
O Blessed Joseph, faithful guardian of my Redeemer, Jesus Christ, protector of Mary, the virgin Mother of God, I choose you this day to be my special patron and advocate and I firmly resolve to honor you all the days of my life. Therefore I humbly ask you to receive me as your client, to instruct me in every doubt, to comfort me in every affliction, to obtain for me and for all the knowledge and love of the Heart of Jesus, and finally to defend and protect me at the hour of my death.
