Irons Family,
I am so proud of how our students, administration, CISD police, and parents responded to the reported threat at Irons this week. Please know I will always work to get you the most accurate information as soon as possible. The safety of our students and staff is my top priority every day. You can always report any suspicious activities or suspected threats to Irons, 1-888-KidChat(543-2428), or the Anonymous Alerts App.
Congratulations to our football and volleyball teams' success this week against Lynn Lucas. Great Job Hawks!
I am trying a new part of the newsletter by attaching a video message. Please take a minute to view the video with the link below. I hope you enjoy the change.
PSAT-On Friday, October 13th, eighth grade students will take the PSAT 8/9. Please keep in mind, if an eighth grade student checks out during PSAT testing, the student cannot return and restart. Also, if a student arrives after the start of the test, they will not be able to take the test. No make-up day is provided for the PSAT 8/9. If your child is a car rider, please have them dropped off by 8:50 am. Testing will begin promptly at 9:10.
Seventh grade students will remain on a regular bell schedule.
This year, the PSAT 8/9 will be administered in a new digital format that will provide an overall easier testing experience for students. Your child will take the PSAT 8/9 using a device provided to them and scores will be released in mid-November.
Information about the PSAT 8/9:
- It serves as a baseline for understanding students’ progress as they enter high school.
- It is an early indicator of college readiness that is aligned with the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, and PSAT.
- The scores from the test will be used for students applying to the high school academies.
- The PSAT 8/9 will include grade-level appropriate content for eighth and ninth graders that will match the scope and difficulty of work found in the classroom. The test content is aligned with the TEKS.
- There is no preparation for this test.
- No make-up day is provided for the PSAT 8/9.
What to bring on October 13th:
- Students will have lunch in the cafeteria. However, students can bring a bottle of water to their testing room.
- Cell phones and smart watches must be turned off and put away. No electronic devices are allowed to remain on the student or on the student's desk during testing.
- Calculators will be provided for the math section of the PSAT 8/9.
You can find more information at:

Irons Fall Dance: will be held on October 20th from 7-9 in the Irons cafeteria. Students can purchase tickets for 10 dollars during all lunches the week of October 16-20. No tickets will be sold at the door. PTO will be selling concessions during the dance. For the safety of our students, we will have a limit of 400 tickets. Students who have been assigned ISS, OSS, DAEP, or have excessive tardies may not attend. All students must have a smart tag ID to purchase tickets and enter the dance. Only Irons students may attend.
Picture Retake: October 4th during all lunches. If you missed our earlier date you can pre-purchase pictures below. More information below.

Conroe ISD Stadium Policies: Football Season has started!!! We are so proud of our ORHS War Eagles and Irons Hawks and hope you have had an opportunity to come out to support them. We want to remind you of some important policies when at our stadiums:
Outside food and drinks are not allowed in the stadium.
No spectators are allowed on the field before or after the game.
Fans are not allowed to congregate under the stands.
Stadiums open 1 hour prior to kickoff.
Only CLEAR backpacks and handbags are allowed to be brought into the stadium.
For a full list of Conroe ISD stadium policies and more information surrounding the clear bag policy follow this link Conroe ISD Stadium Policies.
Extracurricular Activities: We are incredibly proud of the success many of our teams are having and we love the way our students show up to support! I want to remind you that if your child is struggling with attendance, tardies or behavior they may be at risk of not being able to attend extracurricular activities. Students are also required to wear their ID and pay the entrance fee. We are seeing an increase in the number of students walking to local fast food establishments and then returning to campus for a game. We do not have staff to monitor the safety of students if they leave campus. Please ensure your child understands they should not leave campus and return to a game.
Attendance Matters: It is essential that your child is in class each day unless they are ill. If your child misses school, please email our attendance office and remind your child to get with their teacher about missed work. Irons Attendance Office
Yearbooks: We have a limited number of 400 yearbooks for sale. Please purchase yours before we are sold out.

Video Message
Dear parents,
My name is Mike Papadimitriou (Dr. Pap), and I am the Headmaster at the Academy for Careers in Engineering and Science (ACES) located on the Oak Ridge High School Campus. Students in the Oak Ridge, Grand Oaks, College Park and Woodlands feeder zones are eligible to apply for admission to the Academy at Oak Ridge (ACES) and/or the Academy of Science and Technology (AST) at College Park. Despite the name differences, both academies offer just about the same courses, and we have the same program requirements. The manner in which we fulfill these program requirements varies a bit between academies.
Our application deadline is mid-November. Applications should be available soon on our website. Submissions can be by mail, email, fax or in-person drop off.
For the Academy for Careers in Engineering and Science, we do NOT require any additional testing other than the PSAT 8/9 that all CISD 8th graders take at their junior high schools. If your child is not able to take this test, we will use prior standardized test data already on file.
We have three ACES 8th Grade Parent Information Nights scheduled (one in-person and two online):
