Mid-Term Progress Reports--Go Home with Students on September 9
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Students will bring home their mid-term progress report on Friday, September 9. The beginning of the school year is filled with learning procedures, routines, and expectations. This is also a time when teachers are getting to know the students both academically and socially with both formal and informal assessments. The mid-term report is a means of giving parents a checkup of how the student is performing.
Typically, there are a handful of grades collected in each subject by the mid-term. The first mid-term is different, as there are not many assignments that go into the total calculation of the mid-term grade. Parents should take the mid-term grade with care and not place much emphasis on this checkpoint.
Another item we want to point out is your child has only had one complete special class rotation (art, music, PE) at this point. If they have not had the class yet this grading period they will not have a grade or if they just started the class, it may be an incomplete grade with just a few scores. This also applies to the subject areas of science and social studies. Depending on how the teacher provides the curriculum/instruction for science and social studies, students may not have a grade for one of those subjects at this time, or it may be just a small number of assignments that calculate the current grade.
Parents are able to log into Skyward to check up on student progress 24/7. Any questions may be addressed with the classroom teacher.
Parent-Teacher Conferences--October 10-13
On Friday, Sept. 9 your child will bring home a parent-teacher conference parent letter for you to indicate your conference time preferences. Please complete this form and return to your child's teacher by September 19. The teacher will send home conference confirmations by September 28.
PTO Fall Fundraiser Pick-Up
The PTO Fall Fundraiser items will be available for parents to pick-up during parent-teacher conferences, October 10-13. We will not send the items home with students. Also, the money for the items should be turned into the TZ office by October 14th or right after Fall Break. Thank you!

Volunteer in the Classroom or Field Trip--Need Background Check On File--Good for One Year
At TZ we appreciate parents/guardians that would like to volunteer to assist in the classrooms and/or go on field trips. As a part of any volunteer activity, we must have a cleared background check on file for each person wanting to assist here at school or accompany a class on a field trip.
I wanted to take time to clarify the limited/volunteer background checks. These background checks are free to our volunteers. A limited/volunteer background check is only good for one calendar year. If a volunteer wishes to continue volunteering after one year, they must submit a new application.
A link to the form that needs to be completed and turned in to the TZ office is below. You may also come by the school to complete the form. We do need to have a copy of your driver’s license to process the request.
Again, we appreciate your willingness to volunteer.
Mr. Strube
