A Message From Our Principal
Dear Mashburn Family,
I want to say Thank You to everyone for everything you did on Friday to ensure students were safe and the appropriate transportation was provided for each child. Teachers immediately began checking emergency release plans for students as well as calling parents, front office smiling as so many parents came in to check out, several people began helping call after school parents, people came up front to help go get students who were checking out, extra people helped at buses and in car line, the cafeteria's quick response to get lunch out ASAP, custodians putting out ice in areas to prevent it being so slippery. I am grateful for each and every one of you, and your willingness to always help in any way as you always put students' first. I hope you enjoyed some time in the snow with your family, it was a beautiful early Christmas gift. 9 more days until break, we got this. Thank you again for your diligence and care.
Thank you,
Carla
Instructional Extension
We are looking for a few more teachers to help out with instructional extension in February and March. You can have your choice of teaching 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade ELA or Math. ELA is covered on Tuesdays and Math is covered on Thursdays from 3:00 - 4:30. You could just work one day or both. Not only are you helping remediate for our students, but you get paid your regular hourly wage.
You DO NOT have to be a 3rd-5th grade teacher to take advantage of this opportunity!
Please let Andrea Clack know if you're interested and/or would like some more information.

Update for ESOL Students
We will no longer be deferring first year ESOL students. Our new guidelines are below.
In November, the State Board of Education adopted an amendment to Rule 160-3-1-.07 (Testing Programs – Student Assessment). This amendment was initiated at the Board’s September meeting and was introduced to address flexibility offered under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) for newly arrived English Learners (EL). Adoption of this policy was recommended by both the ESSA Assessment Working Committee and the Title III/ESOL Advisory Committee.
Effective immediately:
- Newly‐arrived ELs (i.e., those enrolling in a U.S. school for the first time) will participate in all mandated assessments, with appropriate accommodations as needed, during their first year of enrollment.
- The scores of newly‐arrived ELs will be removed from all statewide accountability calculations based on coding in state‐required data collections.
- During the second and all subsequent years of enrollment, the growth (i.e., progress) made by said students will be included in statewide accountability calculations.
- During the third and all subsequent years of enrollment, the achievement (i.e., content mastery) and growth (i.e., progress) made by said students will be included in statewide accountability calculations.
Important Reminder:
If you have students travelling abroad and or who will be missing 10 days or more, please let them know they must complete a withdrawal form.
Also, if you receive emails (re: withdrawals) not just emails,
