Social Studies Research Project

6th grade students in Ms. Lee's social studies class are researching one of three topics: World War I, the Great Depression, or World War II. They were in the Media Center to access nonfiction books and online resources. Their research project will take the next few weeks of school.

Medication Pickup

The District Office Nursing Services has set a date for the last day to pick up medications. Medication must be picked up by a parent/guardian by May 27, 2022 (the last full day of school). Any medication left in the health room after this date will be discarded! If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Rosa.

Band News

6th, 7th, and 8th grade band students will perform Tuesday, May 10th at 6:00 PM in the PAC; family, friends, teachers, and students are invited! Musicians need to be at the PAC by 5:15 PM with instruments, music, and proper performance attire. Students may leave their instruments backstage at the end of the school day May 10th.

*SAA Concert Winds Band will rehearse Monday, May 9th after school until 4:30 PM.

Dance Spring Recital

Dance recitals are back! Southwood Academy's production will be May 12th at 6:30 PM in the Performing Arts Center. Dancers will need to be at Southwood by 5:30 pm. We will have dress rehearsals during student class time on Wednesday, May 11th and Thursday, May 12th. Students will need to bring costume basics and shoes (this list is on google classroom) with them for the dress rehearsals and the performance. The show is open to the public; tickets are $5 and must be purchased online.

Visual Art News

Visual Art students have been working hard all year, and now it is time to display favorite pieces. The spring Visual Art Exhibit will be Thursday, May 19th 3:30-5:30 PM in the downstairs area of the Performing Arts Center. Parents, teachers, students, and friends are welcome to enjoy the exhibit.

Choir News

Great job at your spring concert Thursday! Next, the 8th grade choir will perform a Choral Showcase during 1st block on Wednesday, May 25th! All choir students are invited to attend, and parents are welcome as well. The event will be recorded and shared for those who can't make it.

Congratulations, Georgia!

Southwood Academy's very own Georgia Seemuller earned an Honorable Mention in the teen division of the 9th Annual Poetry Contest sponsored by the Anderson County Public Library. Georgia won the award for her poem, "My Aunt's Ex-Boyfriend Gave Me COVID (for Christmas)." Check out the site to see all of the winners in the teen and adult divisions.

6th Grade Announcement

All 6th grade students must get the Tdap vaccine before starting the 7th grade! If your 6th grader has not received the Tdap vaccine, please call your health care provider or clinic (Doctor, Minute Clinic, Urgent Care, Doctor’s Care) to do so as soon as possible. This time of year, especially with Covid, appointments are not as readily available. If your 6th grader has received the vaccine, please turn in an updated vaccination record that includes Tdap as soon as possible. Your 6th grader WILL NOT be allowed to start 7th grade without this Tdap booster anywhere in the state of South Carolina. If you have questions or updated vaccination records, please contact Nurse Rosa.

A5 Zone Exemption Information

Dr. Hudson sent out a letter about zone exemption changes. If zone exemptions apply to you and your students, read this over. If you have questions, please contact the district office. Dr. Hudson's letter is linked below.

TL Hanna Summer Camps

Wrestling – This camp is for rising 3rd through 8th graders. 8:00am to Noon June 8-10. Link to sign up > Contact Lance Abernathy.

TLH Volleyball

*If you did not try out for a sport or play a sport for Glenview/McCants/TLH this year, you will need to have a current (April 1, 2022 or later) sports physical uploaded in PlanetHS plus complete all forms on PlanetHS before participating.

*If you played a sport or tried out for a sport at Glenview/McCants/TLH this year, you do not need to bring any forms or have anything updated in PlanetHS to participate.

Glenview Volleyball

Spring Practice starts May 10th & 11th after school until 5pm. Students MUST have a physical and all forms uploaded to and must be approved by the high school before they can even step foot on the court. There will be summer practices and tryouts will be the first week in August.

Meals on Wheels Volunteer Opportunity

Parents or Teachers, Meals on Wheels could use volunteers this summer to help deliver meals to shut-ins in our community. Check out the information below. Contact Rebecca Benitez at or the office at 864-225-6800 if interested.

Free Tutoring Service

As we move into the last few months of the school year, some students may find themselves in need of additional academic support. The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) and the South Carolina State Library (SCSL) are partnering to offer free online tutoring services, provided by, to any student in South Carolina. In addition to tutoring in content areas, students may also drop off papers for review, seek help in test preparation, or ask specific questions about their work. The around-the-clock service is available seven days per week.

Westside Swim Announcement

If you filled out an interest survey for the Westside Swim team, there will be a team tryout on Monday, May 9th from 7:30 - 8:30 pm at the Anderson YMCA. Coach Sullivan will send you additional information in your school e-mail beginning on Monday, May 2nd. If you did not get the information and are interested, please see the front office or contact Coach Sullivan.

Bus Information

Students will not be allowed to ride the bus with friends or neighbors unless that is going to be their permanent stop. If your student needs to ride the bus and have a stop created, please fill out this form.

*The Robert Anderson Sports Bus is now available after school!

Early Dismissal / Appointment Policies

Procedure change for any dismissal during the school day due to COVID19 precautions:
    • When you arrive at school, please call the office: 864-260-5205 to let us know you are here to pick up a student for dismissal.
    • Make sure to have your license ready and press the buzzer for entrance.
    • Once the door is unlocked, be prepared to show your license through the window while you will remain in the foyer. Please DO NOT enter the office area.
    • We will have a sign-out sheet in the foyer. Please know that we will get your student to you as quickly as we can.

All School Meals Are Free for Students

The USDA has extended free meals for students through the end of the school year!

The Book Fair accepts cash, check, credit card, and EWallet* purchases.

*EWallet- parents use credit cards to set an amount for students to spend at the Book Fair, and students don't have to keep track of cash at school. Use this site to set up an EWallet for your student. Mrs. Spencer will have a list of student EWallets at the register.

*Used Books- If you are interested in a used book, you can make a small donation to the All for Books box. You can also get a used book if you round up 50 cents or more to All for Books when you make a purchase. Help Mrs. Spencer clean her media center and donate to a worthy cause!
