Ag in the Classroom

Vermilion County Farm Bureau

A huge thank you to all of the teachers who shared their classrooms with me for a lesson on Exploding Corn! It was lovely to meet each of you and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn with your students. So far, one thousand seven hundred students have taken part in a popcorn class lesson, but it isn't too late for your class!

If you are still interested in a classroom lesson on popcorn, please email me at to set up a time.

Now scheduling: Classroom lessons featuring pumpkins!

Benefits of Farm Bureau

As a member of Farm Bureau, there are over 300,000 discounts readily available. I recently booked a one night stay at Great Wolf Lodge in Cincinnati, Ohio for my daughter's birthday. Using the discount code, I was able to save over $50 off the lowest available price. Even with my $20 yearly associate membership, I was still able to save my family $30!
Did you know:
The Ag in the Classroom program is funded solely by the Vermilion County Farm Bureau Foundation. Various times throughout the year, the Foundation holds fundraisers to support our program. Currently, the Farm Bureau is selling raffle tickets with three large prizes up for grabs.

Big picture

Vermilion County Agriculture in the Classroom

My name is Missy Buhr and I am so excited to be the new Ag Literacy Coordinator for Vermilion County! I was born and raised on a hog farm in south central Indiana, where my family also grew corn, wheat, and soybeans; not to mention cows, chickens, children and the occasional pet. After graduating from college, I married my husband Andy, and we now live on a grain farm in rural Gifford with our two children.

I have been a second grade classroom teacher for six years and have over seven years experience at the preschool level. I am looking forward to combining two important roles that I love—agriculture and teaching.

I am eager to share this adventure with your students and look forward to meeting you very soon!
