Volunteer for Multicultural Day
Multicultural Day will be held on Friday, Nov. 17 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. This year students will learn about other countries and cultures while traveling through Mexico, Asia, Europe, the Pacific Rim, Latin America, and Africa. It takes many hands to make this day a success, and we are currently seeking country instructors in first grade (Asia) and volunteers in all grade levels. If you have some time to give, please consider helping us celebrate diversity on this amazing day. If you are available to help, please email the MCD committee at firstname.lastname@example.org. or talk to Rachel Bailey or Tone Rosen directly.
Help make a difference
Help us "Stuff a Truck" with People's Resource Center to reach their goal of collecting 40,000 pounds of food. We will be collecting healthy non-perishable/non-glass food items to donate. Fill a plastic or paper bag and drop off at the school office between October 19-25. On October 27 the 5th grade students will help "stuff the truck" with our donations. Questions? Please contact Amy Angolkar at email@example.com

The P.E. department is seeking 4x6 photos of Madison students playing sports/fitness/Lego activities for the P.E. hallway. Categories include: running, baseball/T-ball/softball, soccer, golf, football/cheerleading, basketball, Legos and miscellaneous (swimming, hiking, etc.). Please label and send us your photos!
All K-5 students will be roller skating during their P.E. time the week of October 23. Each student will need to bring in $7 cash for equipment rental. Students are not allowed to bring in their own skates, but helmets and wrist guards are required and may be brought from home. This fun activity requires help from parents. Please consider volunteering your time.
Please help your child remember gym shoes and socks every day for P.E. Students also may bring in their own goggles for throwing games.
Questions? Please contact your P.E. teacher -- Mr. Cortesi, Mr. Fry or Mr. Spontak.
Order Butter Braid
Our delicious Butter Braid fundraiser will be starting on October 18 and will run through November 1. Look for order forms coming home soon in your child's backpack. There will be samples available for tasting at both conference nights, so be on the lookout to try these delicious breads if you haven't done so already. You don't want to miss out!
State to report on KIDS
Kindergarten readiness is a key area of focus for the State of Illinois. To this end, school districts in Illinois will begin reporting on 14 readiness measures of the Kindergarten Individual Development Survey (KIDS) for each kindergartner beginning in the fall of 2017. You can learn more by visiting the KIDS Families Toolkit at www.isbe.net/KIDS.
General Mills Box Tops for Education Challenge
Please save General Mills Box Tops and send them to the LLC. Madison earns 10 cents for every General Mills Box top. Thank you to Mrs. Spires for heading up this effort. Last year we purchased many copies of the new Rebecca Caudill, Monarch, and Bluestem Award Book Nominees.
