Principal's Corner
This past week was full of amazing events that our staff, students and parents enjoyed very much. The Honor Roll Assemblies were a success and our students, with their parents, were able to celebrate nine weeks of hard work and success. On Tuesday, our Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students enjoyed Career Day. Our boys and girls were able to learn a great deal about many very interesting and various careers. A special note to all our presenters: Thank you for all the enthusiasm and dedication showed to our students! To end the week, we had many students enjoy their Friday with mom or dad during Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.
This upcoming week, as part of "crunch time", we are starting our countdown to FSA. Our teachers and students in grades fourth and up, will be starting to work on a 45 day warm-up packet that is to be completed in class. This packet will lead our students into a successful testing season. As parents, you can also support your child(ren) from home by visiting fsassessments.org and having students complete the practice tests that can be found under the "Students and Families" tab. There, you can also find more information about the FSA test as well as a tab for Frequently Asked Questions.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: NURSE JEAN-JOSEPH
This week, we interviewed our amazing nurse, Ms.Jean-Joseph, or Nurse JJ, like everyone calls her.
Nurse JJ always wanted to become a nurse because she loves taking care of people, and she feels that watching her patients get better is a privilege. She used to work in a hospital, but she became a school nurse because she wanted to work with a variety of students and children and have a greater influence.
Nurse Jean-Joseph cares a lot when her students are injured or sick. She mentions that even sometimes it affects her personally because she cares so much about them.
Our amazing nurse believes that our students like her as a nurse because she is relatable, a good listener and always very supportive.
To the question, how do you like working at Franklin Academy? Her response was: “I love working at Franklin Academy, this is my second home!!!”
AROUND FRANKLIN...
FTE Week
As parents, we know that regular student attendance is important for student learning and progress throughout the school year. Attendance is also directly linked to the state's financial support for schools. To ensure our attendance records are counted for maximum state funding this school year, please have your child(ren) attend school each day from February 5th through February 9th.
FSA Writing
We have received the dates for the 2017-2018 FSA Writing assessment. Parents, if your child(ren) is in grades fourth and up, please ensure you mark these dates on your caledar:
- 8th grade: March 1st.
- 4th through 7th grades: March 6th.

The Weight of Words
The Weight of Words puts a magnifying glass on the topic of bullying and its effects within a home, a school, a community, the United States and in the world. We hear about the issues from every angle- the ones being bullied, the bullies themselves, bystanders, parents, teachers, principals, community leaders and law makers. “What will you do with the weight of your words?”
In partnership with the Broward Office of Prevention and Nova High School, this production is currently touring in Broward county. It has been seen by over 70,000 people to date, including performances at Disney and the national teachers conferences. It has also been licensed to schools in Ohio, Kansas, New York and Las Vegas, where it was performed at State Thespian Conference.
