Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of January 22, 2023
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Greetings,
Our students and staff brought their “A” game this week with lots of great things happening in and out of the halls of EHTHS. Our week began with “Aloha Monday'' as our students and staff adorned our halls with their finest tropical wear. Feeling like we were in the tropics, our swim teams have spent the whole week preparing for CAL Championships. Last night, the Girls Swim Team took 2nd place! We would be remiss if we didn’t recognize the following swimmers:
Katie Carlos, Denise Yushan, Kayla Nguyen & Rhylee Cornell - 200 Medley Relay 1st place and new CAL Meet record
Summer DeWitt 5th place 200 Free
Rhylee Cornell 4th 200 IM
Kayla Nguyen 1st 100 Fly
Katie Carlos 1st 100 Free
Denise Yushan 4th 400 Free
Katie Carlos 1st 100 Back New Meet Record
Rhylee Cornell 2nd 100 Breast
Denise Yushan 4th 100 Breast
400 Free Relay 2nd place Katie Carlos, Rhylee Cornell, Denise Yushan, Summer DeWitt
Individual High Point Award - Katie Carlos 2nd place
On Tuesday night, the Wrestling team was able to take a nice win over Cedar Creek as they celebrated their seniors for Senior Night. The parents and coaches did a very nice job recognizing our seniors.
Over 140 students from Fernwood, Alder and the High School gathered in the auditorium on Thursday night for the Annual District Choral Festival. The students did an amazing job and parents were certainly impressed by the performance. We would like to thank Mr. Tinsley and Mr. Milnes for their help in making the program a success.
Also happening last night, Dr. Schreiner, Ms. Chen and the World Language Department hosted our first ever family night for Chinese speaking families. It was a wonderful turnout and the families learned a great deal about our district. We celebrated the Lunar New Year with delicious Chinese foods. Ms. Chen and her students even made parting gifts for all of the participants.
Finally, the Mock Trial Team, under the direction of Mr. Martirone, successfully defeated Mainland last night to advance to the next round. Come out and support the team as they try their next case on Tuesday, January 31 at 5:30 p.m. the Atlantic City Superior Court.
Today, our students and staff under the direction of our Guidance Department are running an Academic Fair in our gymnasium. All high school and middle school students will have an opportunity to visit with over 50 elective opportunities offered here at the high school.
Best of luck to the Boys Swim Team tonight in the CAL Championships! Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Carugno

Thank you Jenna and Alexis for being such UPSTANDING students in our school.

EHTHS Band
Great News for the Arts in EHT!
For the 2nd consecutive year, Michael Hanna - EHTHS ‘25, has successfully auditioned for the clarinet section of the NJ ALL STATE BAND!
Kudos and thank you also to EHTHS Band Director, Mr. Matt Wyckoff for helping prepare and sponsor him for his audition. In addition to his school activities, Michael is also a student member of the Atlantic Pops and studies clarinet privately with Mrs. Karen Poorman in EHT.
Digital Music and Recording Class
A Great Day for the Arts in EHT!
Congratulations to senior, Jacob Stafford for being named a winner of the NAfME (National Association for Music Education) student composition contest!
His piece, “Fight for Your Life” was composed in his Digital Music and Recording class with the guidance of EHTHS Music Technology Teacher and Jazz Band Director, Mr. David Milnes.
“Fight for Your Life” will be formally premiered at the 2023 NAfME Eastern conference in Rochester, NY on April 14th!
Jacob was the 2021 and 2022 Drum Major/Conductor of the EHTHS Silver Eagle Band and also performs as a student member of the Atlantic Pops!
Mock Trial Team
Legal Eagles
The Legal Eagles are back in Court. Our defense won over Oakcrest in civil court. Both sides competed well but in the end EHTs team carried the day! Well done Lawyers: Mesha Gulati, and Osa Unuigbe. And congratulations to our witnesses: Lily Winkler, Madeline Stester, and Marcus Sarao. We’ll see you back in Court on Thursday!
Legal Eagles are back in action! Last night, our Plantiffs squared off against Mainland Regional. It was a fun and friendly competition between two schools with great students. Good luck to lawyers Matthew Levine, Sawyer Dilks and witnesses: Eva Nye, Amanda Hawkins and Giovanna Morano Teles. Update: EHT defeated Mainland, and is now undefeated moving on the second round.

#DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
