Texas School Nurses Organization
October 2016
Mission Statement
To promote, protect, and enhance professional school nurse practice through advocacy, evidence-based education, collaboration, and partnerships that support each student’s well-being and readiness to learn.
This newsletter takes NASN’s Framework for 21st Century School Nursing Practice approach.
President's Message
Hello members,
I hope this newsletter finds you well and the beginning of the school year has been kind to you.
I’d like to mention a few important messages from NASN:
Beth Mattey, NASN President, has asked everyone to provide comments on the draft School Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice document. This document represents our school nursing practice and your feedback is vital! I challenge you to please provide feedback prior to being submitted to the American Nurses Association for publication. Comments will be accepted through October 30, 2016: Access the draft document at NASN Requests Public Comment on Draft Scope and Standards.
Sue Zacharski, NASN Vice President announced NASN’s 2nd Annual Membership Campaign #NASNPower. The campaign will be introduced in the first week of October, through a SNN Blog and in the NASN Weekly Digest. In the first week of October, she encourage members to tweet about their NASN Story and answer questions. Join in the fun!
October Promotion (NASN: Where School Nurses Unite! Are you all in? #NASNPower)
Week 1
Tell your NASN Story
Week 2

Week 3
NASN and Sight for Students
Week 4
We are NASN Strong (the campaign)
Week 5
Messages will be collected from the previous weeks and put together.
Consider reaching out to just ONE fellow school nurse colleague that is not a member and ask them to join NASN/TSNO today. You can earn NASN e-commerce credits for each new member you refer! I had enough credit in my account that it paid for a FREE e-book. We can potentially double in size if we all make this our goal.
Take care and I hope to see you at conference!
Francis Luna
STANDARDS OF PRACTICE

"
Concussions – The Role of the School Nurse June 2016
"The school nurse has the knowledge and skills to provide concussion prevention education to parents/guardians, students, and school staff; identify suspected concussions; and help guide the student's post‐concussion graduated academic and activity re‐entry process."
Visit NASN Position Documents for more evidence-based positions summarizing the historical, political, and/or scientific aspects regarding a topic related to school nursing, school health services and/or NASN.
