Miss Courtney's Class
This Week...
During choice time, Miss Courtney and Miss Jean worked on helping your kiddo answer the question, " What do you want for Christmas?" We wrote their answers on a present and then hung the presents along our pretend chimney in the hallway! The kids loved doing this. Today we also did some "Silly to Calm" yoga on the smartboard. This yoga began with a silly pose and then a calm one and so on. It is nice to use the smartboard for this because it is engaging for the children, we can pause it in between to work on certain moves or slow it down, and they get the visual model right in front of them. We liked the smartboard for something different today!
Today, we also began to read, "The smells of Christmas" with Miss Becky. We read this book every year and it is becoming a classroom tradition. This book incorporates so many things. We get to smell, touch and taste items in the story. It is a total sensory experience and it is so cool! Children stay engaged because the story comes alive and they are a part of it. We answer questions about the text and lont to pictures in the book. We will be reading and acting out this book a lot!

We also used plastic cups dipped in paint to create an all circle shape tree. The kids liked having something different to explore the paint with. We had to try to follow a line that was already draw in the shape of a triangle tree shape. This visual model is helpful to little learners! Whenever you are painting at home, give them shapes to paint on top off, or spaces to try to stay inside of. Being organized in this way gives your kiddos confidence.
We did a group lesson with Miss Kelly and Miss Kara today! The kids had to identity and stand on a certain color. They had to catch and throw a ball to knock down pins. The balls we used were all different textures and colors which helped us to hold them and stay involved in the tasks at hand! It was so much fun, everyone did well paying attention and following directions. I was proud of your kids!

Today we worked together in a whole group to make a Santa Claus craft. The kids colored in his face pink and then glued on circle eyes and circle nose and a triangle hat. Afterwards, we all used different textured rollers dipped in white paint to create his fluffy beard. Everyone's Santas look unique and special!
