The Leighton News: Summer Edition

July 27, 2022

From the Principal

Dear Leighton Families,

Wow, summer sure has flown by and we hope that you are enjoying these precious days where things slow down a bit while capturing lots of memories with friends and family. Being in and out of the building without the hustle and bustle of the school days, and the laughter and learning of our students is certainly not the same and we miss each one of them.

We have been working very hard to prepare for the next school year and ensure a smooth start and seamless transitions for all of our students. I have to give a big thank you to our amazing custodial staff who works all summer to ensure the building is in tip top shape for our students to return in the Fall. The building always looks amazing!

Please be on the lookout for communications coming via mail during the first week in August in regards to the start of the next school year and important information about student placements, new student orientations, Meet and Greets, important dates, school calendars, school supply lists, and opening year activities and information. See some important dates below to add to your calendars initially. Our Transportation Department will be sending out bus information before school begins as well.

We have some new additions to our Leighton Staff this school year and are so excited to welcome them to Leighton! We are welcoming the following new staff:

Mr. Ben Lehman, Assistant Principal

Mrs. Brooke Goldhammer (Grade 3)

Mrs. Valli Stauffer (Grade 4)

Mrs. Jennifer Stephens (Grade 3 Interventions Specialist)

Mr. Eric VanRaepenbusch (Grade 5 Intervention Specialist)

Ms.Karli Scaffide (PE)

As many of our families know, we are expanding and our enrollment is increasing which is such a beautiful testament to the outstanding educational environments fostered through our rigorous curriculum, strategic vision, and whole child approach to teaching and learning. Outside of our new staff additions, we also will be welcoming the arrival of a new addition of a modular classroom. The modular classroom will be attached to the third grade wing side of the building and our Reading and Math Specialists will be working throughout the unit this year. It is our understanding that the modular classroom should arrive sometime this week.

The staff and I are so excited for another fabulous start to the school year in a few weeks and we miss each one of your children! We can't wait to hear about all of their summer adventures! In the mean time enjoy the wonders of summer vacation and all the memories you can capture!

Kind Regards,

Michelle Nizen, Building Principal

Ben Lehman, Assistant Principal

*Please note the office staff will be out of the building for July but back again on August 1st from 8-3pm. If you need immediate assistance please contact the Board Office.

Final Forms Reminder!

The Aurora City School District uses Final Forms to complete necessary back-to-school paperwork. Final Forms saves data from year-to-year so that you will never need to enter the same information twice. Final Forms also pre-populates information wherever possible, for each of your students, saving you time if you have multiple children in the district. If at any time a phone number, email address, or contact information changes, we will get a notification that a change has been made so please make updates whenever necessary.

There has been a recent update to Final Forms and we will need all families and caregivers to check their Final Forms accounts to ensure all components are complete. You will see unfinished items in red or any necessary signatures for completion. Our district communicates Final Forms messages to the primary parent listed. If two or more family members would like to receive messages, please make sure both family members have a full access account so you can receive the correct information. Simply create an account and link your child/children.

We have many families who have already accessed Final Forms and have completed the necessary paperwork. This is one thing you can do now before the busyness of the beginning of the year! If you are having difficulty with Final Forms, please contact Lindsay Verdova at the main office for assistance lverdova@aurora-schools.org or 330- 330-562-2209.
