February News #readytofly
A Note from Mrs. Phillips
Dear Hornet Families,
Welcome to February, the month between winter and spring when it seems impossible to dress appropriately. Please dress your child in layers, as we will go outside for recess as long as it's not freezing outside. Our rooms are comfortable and it's easy for students to only want to wear a T-shirt. Continue to call the office if your child will be absent. We are thoroughly cleaning each night but illnesses are circulating. Remind your child to wash their hands and keep their cough covered.
We have many things coming up in February. Here are the highlights:
- CoGat testing for grades K, 2, 4, and 6 begins this week. Scroll through the newsletter for more information.
- Star Lab lessons will be offered to each class during the week of the 5th. Thank you Mrs. Haffner and Mrs. Hazelrigg for presenting these lessons.
- Quarter 3 mid-term progress reports will be coming home on the 8th. If you are concerned about your child's grades, please reach out to your teacher.
- WVAA Elementary Art show will be on February 9th.
- The PTO trash bag fundraiser will continue until Feb. 12th. Students were challenged to sell 15 rolls to support PTO.
- School will be in session on Feb. 19th as a snow make-up day.
In your Thursday folder this week, a parent survey will be included. This is our mid-year review to see how we are doing as a school community and how we can continue to grow. You do not have to include your name unless you'd like to discuss your feedback. Please return the form to school so that we may reflect and address any areas of concern.
My goal is to be as transparent as possible as your leader. If there is anything we can do better, please let me know. You can always message me on Dojo, Facebook or Twitter. I am also available by email and phone. I will return your communication within 24 hours. Have a great month of February!
Be kind, be amazing, and ALWAYS be ready to F.L.Y.!

CogAT Testing
CogAT Testing for grades K, 2, 4 and 6 will be from February 5 through February 23. The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) is a multiple-choice K-12 assessment that measures reasoning skills. The CogAT Test measures the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student compared to students at their age and grade. These general reasoning abilities, which start developing at birth and continue through early adulthood, are influenced by experiences gained both in and out of school. It is used by teachers to identify a student's strengths and weaknesses and help guide guide educational placement decisions.
Attention Preschool Parents
LSP is already planning for the 2024-2025 school year. We need your help reaching Fayette County families with children who will be 3 years old by 8/1/24. Families interested in preschool programming for the 2024-2025 school year (3-5 year old children), should complete the interest form below.
