Thoughts From My Garden
Dear Cougar Family,
I love butterflies! My family spent this afternoon working in the yard, mostly in by butterfly garden that I can see from my bedroom windows. Everything we have planted is designed to attract pollinators, and while the plantings my be a little too random for some, they sure make me happy--salvia, lantana, butterfly bush, honeysuckle, and my Tiffany roses with my bird bath from Brookwood as the centerpiece.
While my love of butterflies started because they remind me of my Grandma Richburg, I think my love of them has continued because of the symbolism of transformation--from caterpillar, to chrysalis to colorful winged insect. While I worked in the garden today, I thought of that process of transformation and how it relates to what we do each day working with teenagers. They are in varying phases of their transformation. Some are still caterpillars, focused on their own needs. Others have retreated into the chrysalis, separate from the world. Others are colorful butterflies ready to be set lose into the world beyond high school. Each one is unique and beautiful with gifts that we need to help them discover and grow confident in before they spread their wings and fly.
We work in perpetual cycles in schooling. The only thing that stays the same is the change. I am thankful to work at a school that embraces change as an opportunity to grow and become better, both for ourselves and for our students.
May you all have a transformative week!
As always, COUGAR PRIDE!

P.S. Thursday counts as the usual "Friday" this week for jeans and spirit gear.

The Layout is flexible! Check out this slideshow for inspiration as to how you might use the space with your classes.
