From the Principal’s Desk

Greetings Shiloh Families,

Last week, I asked for your support. I am again asking for your support with social media.

My daily announcements remind students: “YOU are safe, loved, nurtured, & magnificent! Show your Shiloh P.R.I.D.E. by being Proud & Prepared, Resilient & Respectful, an Innovator with Integrity, Dedicated & Disciplined, & exhibit EXCELLENCE by being Engaged.” I also ask them to repeat this mantra: “I am a 5 Star General and if I fight at Shiloh MS, not only am I not exhibiting excellence, but I will go to a disciplinary tribunal because Shiloh is a SAFE school where learning is my priority!”

I really need your help discussing Shiloh’s P.R.I.D.E. and what it means to “model excellence every day” with your children. I want them to know that home, school, and community are one, and we believe in that adage, “it takes a village to raise a child.”

We have been finding that students are sharing information and pictures on social media that are not appropriate. We are also finding that students are using it in a way that does not “Model Excellence Every Day.” This, in turn, is now showing up in school in the form of disagreements and inappropriate behavior toward one another. We are a family and should always support and encourage one another.

We want our students, school, and community to shine bright like a diamond, so it will take every hand and heart for us to get there.

Remember, we are 100% all in and we have an opportunity to show the world what a united school community can accomplish.

Thank you for your continued support in adhering to the safety measures that are place for both you and your scholar during car-rider drop-off and dismissal.

On another note, Gwinnett County Public Schools is hosting upcoming COVID-19 vaccination clinics at the following locations and dates:

1) Shiloh HS 09/07 & 09/09

2) Discovery HS 09/14 & 09/16

3) Duluth HS 09/21 & 09/23

4) Dacula HS 09/28 & 09/30

5) Grayson HS 10/05

If you have family members that are 12 years old or older, this would be a great time to get vaccinated.

Virtual Curriculum Night and the Title I Annual Meeting is around the corner and we are excited to share with our Shiloh families what to expect this year as your child dives into each content and connections classes. This event will take place on Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. I am looking forward to seeing you!

This fall, the Gwinnett County Board of Education will go on the road, meeting once in each Board member’s district. At this year’s Area Board Meetings, attendees will have the opportunity to meet Gwinnett County Public Schools’ new superintendent, Dr. Calvin J. Watts, and members of the Gwinnett County Board of Education. During the meeting, Dr. Watts will share information about the new school year and his focus as he begins leading Georgia’s largest school district. In addition, meeting participants will learn more about the district’s work to engage the community and will be able to provide input through an online survey to share topics that are of interest to them.

Please note that interpreters will be available at all meetings to assist attendees who speak Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, or Chinese.

Stream Area Board Meetings

Unable to attend any of the scheduled Area Board meetings? Join us online! The meetings will be streamed live on GCPS TV and on the GCPS TV app. The mobile app is available for these devices: Apple, Android, Amazon Fire, and the Roku Channel. In addition, each meeting will be recorded and available to view on the website

The Area Board Meetings are organized to host students, families, and staff members from school communities located in each Board member’s electoral district. The physical location of the school determines which Area Board Meeting each school is designated to attend. However, citizens may attend any one of the five meetings. All meetings begin at 7 p.m. in the host school’s theater, with a Board Governance Team Meet and Greet beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Masks are required for all students, families, staff, and community members attending events in GCPS facilities. For the Area Board Meetings, seating will be limited to accommodate the need for physical distancing under COVID-19 mitigation strategies. However, citizens can watch the meetings live on GCPS TV.
