Lead Learner Highlights
Dear KP Families,
We are one week away from the end of the quarter. Please check in with your child about their progress in their classes and making a plan for continued success or improvement. We have quite the exciting week after celebrating our first Color Run on Saturday. We wore orange to stand up against bullying and 6th graders are holding their first dance and social this afternoon. Please be sure to check out the fantastic video that 8th grader Scottie G. produced from our Color Run. He volunteered his time, talent and drone to record this event and did something Awesome. His video will be featured on our local television station (Channel 5) during the Be the Media Show. As a reminder, teachers have sent out conference time letters. Please be sure to sign up for a time that works for your family. Also, be sure to check out the community forum on the show "13 Reasons" so that you are an informed parent/caregiver.
8th Grade Student Scott G. produced this Amazing Video!
Opportunities to Serve the KP Community
Collecting books
Hi! My name is Alexander Steinberg from the Ruby team. For my Bar Mitzvah project, I am collecting books to donate to kids in need. If you have any preschool and elementary (grades K-3) books at home that you don’t want anymore, please consider donating them. You can bring them to the security desk in front of the office and put them in the book box that I will provide! The books will be donated to preschoolers who don’t have the privilege of having as many books as we do. So open your hearts and your bookshelves, and give to children in need.
I will be collecting books through the month of November.
Thank you.

Membership Drive & Book Club
Your 2017-2018 membership dues earn you a great deal this year: a paperback copy of Ross Greene's Raising Human Beings.
For just $15, you can support Special Education projects, receive information about SEPTO events, and earn a best-selling author's book, a great, down-to-earth read, whether your children have challenging behaviors or not! The book can be claimed by new or renewing members for 2017-2018 at any SEPTO meeting beginning October 25. Please see www.WHSepto.org for program details and www.whsepto.org/membership.html to join or to renew your membership.
The book will be discussed at our April meeting, as West Hartford Schools personnel share their training in Greene's Collaborative and Proactive Solutions model. The model focuses on identifying the skills a person is lacking and the expectations they’re having difficulty meeting. Then the goal is to help them solve those problems, rather than trying to modify their behavior through application of rewards and punishments.] Greene proposes that kids will do well when they are able. And they will learn to better communicate, take another's perspective, and resolve disagreements without conflict when they are made collaborative, proactive partners in finding solutions.
Thank You!
You helped us raise $500 during our Harry’s BC Fundraiser on October 11th!
Funds raised will go directly back into supporting our students receiving special education services in West Haertford.

"Public Act 16-189
We believe that it is vital for all students in West Hartford Public Schools to be able to efficiently and effectively use digital tools that empower them in all phases of the learning process, including research, problem solving, content creation, communication, and collaboration. We also believe that we must be committed at all times to protecting students' privacy and providing them with a powerful and safe educational experience. To that end, the West Hartford Public Schools follow the legal requirements of Public Act 16-189 to promote the safety and security of all students and staff.
In compliance with Connecticut State Law, we update online programs used within the district that house student data. The programs may be used district-wide, in a very small number of classrooms, or with individual students. The list will be updated each time the district enters into a new contract where student data is housed. For more information on the specifics of Public Act 16-189 and updates of vendor agreements, visit www.whps.org/pa189."
