Let the show begin! STAAR Week!

  • We will have hot dogs, potato salad and chips on Wednesday for all staff members.
  • Jeans and LVES and/or college/university shirts may be worn all week as a symbol of support to our students and teachers.
  • Remind your students they are our champions. Teachers, you are also our champions. We've got this!

Logistics for this Week: STAAR WARS

OUR 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be taking the STAAR test this week. To support in providing them with an exceptional testing environment, please adhere to the following:

  • In the event that we have to have indoor recess on testing days, please be creative, yet mindful of our testing environment.
  • All lunch times will need to be at Level 1 or 0. (We are testing throughout the entire building.)
  • There will be students testing in some of the administrators' offices, please consider this when in the front office, workroom, and teacher's lounge.
  • Jeans and LVES and/or college/university shirts may be worn all week as a symbol of support to our students and teachers.
  • We will have lunch on Wednesday for all staff members. It will be in the lounge.
  • All certified teachers should be prepared to assist with testing (in the event that we have an emergency).
  • High five, hug, or smile to our students and/teachers who are testing...they are ALL OUR Ponies!
  • If a student who is slated to test comes late (after 10:00), please support us by accommodating that student in your classroom (if you are asked). Remember, students cannot enter the testing room if they arrive after 10:00.

Wednesday Staff Learning

No Excuses University College Days

Let the fun begin!

From May 21st through June 1st, we want to invite you to have No Excuses University College Days. During these days, take some time to continue learning with your students about the university that you represent. Remind them of their class year. For example, our 5th graders will be graduating high school Class of 2025 and graduating college class of 2029... Wow!

Think of ways you can make these days engaging. Examples:

  • Decorate your doors and the hallways.
  • Invite people to speak about their universities!
  • Team up with other teachers and surprise your students.
  • Each day that the whole class is present, add a letter to spell 'College'. The class could be rewarded when 'College' is spelled.
  • Create a college video to be shown during the announcements.
  • Complete a mock college application. Prepare students of what is expected when they get to high school and begin the actual process.
  • Have your class apply to the next grade level.
  • This is a power point about six different ways to pay for college. I created in response to hearing my fifth graders say that college was too expensive. Suitable for grades 5 and up. (from NoExcuse Connect)
  • The students choose two universities to research and then complete a double bubble thinking map, similar to a Venn Diagram, in order to compare and contrast them. The universities can be given by the teacher or the students can choose their own. One university can be red, the other blue and any similarities between the two will be put inside a purple circle, to show they're alike. The students can add illustrations to their work for visual appeal and for a bulletin board display.
  • College Brochure assignment.
You can find several ideas in NoExcuse Connect. Click here

I Station Data

As you can tell by the graphs below, our students reading ability keeps growing. Continue exposing your students to reading for the next 19 days. Encourage your students to read during the summer.

We will have a summer library open during the summer using the library book box.

We are also planning on visiting with the apartment complexes and partnering with them to deliver books during the summer.

If you have books that you are willing to donate, please give them to Belinda Rubio. Thank you for all of your support.
