Title One Update
Brittany Terrio, Courtney Williams, and Katherine Mazzaroni were elected to the SIC to provide parent and community input during our monthly meetings. The next meeting is set for November 30, 2020 at 2:45 pm. The meetings are virtual and invitations are sent through email. If anyone is interested in attending a SIC meeting, please reach out to Mrs. Mary Smith with your contact information.
Carver welcomes all questions and suggestions from students, parents and community members. There is a suggestion box in the library. It is checked twice a week and appropriate responses are provided within 24 hours. If parents email teachers or other staff members, they also are to respond within 24 hours.
There is a copy of the 2020-2021 Title One Plan in the media center and the main office. Anyone can request to see it at any time. There are also copies of the Carver Family Engagement Policy and the Florence One School Engagement Policy with the Title One Plan.
Title One Fall Parent Survey Information
Thank you for responding to Carver’s Fall Parent Survey. Your input is greatly appreciated and helps determine the parent trainings that are held each year. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Smith or Mrs. Little at 843-664-8156.
According to the surveys returned:
217 responded that they knew the Title One plan is available for parents to review in Carver’s main office.
209 responded that they signed the Parent-Student-Teacher Compact at the beginning of the year.
Parent/Teacher conferences (164) and special ceremonies (171) are the activities that most parents participate in, while parent trainings (33) have the fewest participants.
Parents are interested in trainings that involve the new math textbook, Big Ideas, and how to help children with reading strategies. STEM activities are also of interest to parents and students.
This year we will host a Big Ideas Math Night, a MyON Reading Night, and a STEM Night. The math and reading nights will be held in the fall. They will be virtual with instructional videos and include a survey for families to complete. Your feedback will be vital to the success of future “virtual parent trainings” since we have never conducted trainings with families in this manner. Please be on the lookout for the dates and times for these parenting nights in Mrs. Little’s weekly newsletter. Students will receive books and manipulatives to support their elearning activities throughout the year.
