QUOTES FOR THE PRINCIPALS' JOURNEY DURING THIS UNPRECEDENTED TIME
“Sometimes, doing your best is not good enough. Sometimes you must do what is required.”― Winston S. Churchill
"Planned events shape culture, but probably the thing that shapes school culture more are unplanned events. Everybody steps back and watches how school leaders respond. --Mike Rutherford, MLDS Zoom Meeting March 31, 2020
"Stay rooted in love."--Jostens
"We may be feet apart, but we stand together."--Anonymous
Dear Colleague,
SINCE 1925
Since 1925 MoASSP doors have been open for secondary school principals, and they will continue to be open when you are back in your buildings, and uncertainty turns to "Happy Days Are Here Again."
While everyone is practicing social distancing, it's a priority for MoASSP to stay close to you in ways that we didn't think possible only a month or two ago. While COVID--19 has undoubtedly turned our world upside down, I encourage all of us to remove from our minds that this is a permanent state. We need to take a cue from Apple as they are planning on reopening selective stores in May. How about we do the same. Shortly, all of us will be singing,
"Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again
So, let's sing a song of cheer again
Happy times
Happy nights
Happy days
Are here again!"
Jack Yellen

Leading Through Crisis: A Virtual Town Hall Series for School Leaders
The COVID-19 crisis is testing your leadership and the leadership of principals around the country in ways we never anticipated, calling on you to provide your community with extraordinary support under unprecedented conditions. That’s why we’re augmenting our offerings to include “Leading Through Crisis”, a six-part virtual town hall series that will connect you with your colleagues to discuss your new reality during this critical situation.
Each session will be held at 3:00 p.m. (ET) on the date specified below.
- April 7: Leading Remote Learning—With a sudden shift to remote learning, how can a principal still provide instructional leadership? Learn more
- April 9: Sustaining School Life—How do you sustain a culture and provide students closure, especially in the face of uncertainty and the cancellation of capstone events like prom and graduation? Learn more
- April 14: Planning for Transition—How can you prepare now to limit the effects of an unusual school year ending and prepare for the start of a new school year? Learn more
We’re all learning as we go, so take advantage of these opportunities to learn in a collegial community, break your isolation, and pick up an idea or two.
