Principal Message

Dear St. Mary School Families,

I CANNOT believe the start of school is finally upon us! Fr. Paul, all of our teachers and staff, and I are excited to begin this school year with our students! I, along with some of our new faces in the staff are excited to meet everyone. We are welcoming some new teachers as well as some that are changing roles. Mrs. Cassie Wright will be our new 5th-grade teacher and Ms. Halle Seymour will be our new Music teacher. Mrs. Cindy Weeks will be transitioning roles from Art to 3rd grade! We are very excited to welcome them to the St. Mary School family and to new roles.

One of my favorite things to do is to greet our students and families at the entrance each morning and I am also a big fan of high-fives. However, this year with the pandemic I have to learn some new socially distanced greetings. Below I have attached a graphic of some fun, socially distanced greetings for each morning. I am also looking forward to learning some new, fun socially distanced greetings too!

I look forward to spending the holiday weekend with some quality family time and I hope everyone has a restful and relaxing weekend with family!

Thank you,

George Mitchell

Covid-19 Acknowledgement of Risk

Every family is required to complete this form. Each student in a family is also required to sign this form and return it to school. You may scan and send back in email or drop it off in the office. This needs to be completed prior to the first day of school. If you have questions or need a copy of the form, please email George Mitchell at

Temperature and Symptoms Checks Reminder

Stated in the reopening plan were the policies regarding temperature and symptoms checks for students prior to coming to school. We are working to implement a system for parents to track those checks in order to provide the school with timely information in the event symptoms are present. Ultimately I implore you as parents to perform that temperature and symptoms checks EVERY morning in order to ensure our students, staff, and families remain safe. If the temperature is 100.0F or higher and/or Covid-19 symptoms are present (symptoms list in the plan) the student, as well as siblings, needs to remain home. Please ensure consistency with following this policy!

Final Forms

St. Mary School 2020-2021 Reopening Plan

Preschool Update

First day 4's - Tuesday, Sept. 15th

First day 3's - Tuesday, Sept. 15th

AM Preschool start time will be 8:15 instead of 8:30. This is an effort to ensure we have ample time between preschool groups to sanitize the classroom.

AM Schedule - 8:15-11:15

PM Schedule - 12:30-3:30

Face Coverings - Preschool students will be required to have a face covering (mask) at school. However, they are not mandated or required to wear them throughout the day. Our preschool staff will work with our students to understand the purpose and procedure of wearing face coverings and will have the discretion to allow preschool students to not wear face coverings throughout the day. It will be highly encouraged that they wear them while moving through common areas of the school, but with the understanding of student-by-student needs with the face coverings for our preschool students. If there are any questions regarding face coverings please reach out to Mr. Mitchell at

Lunch Update

Lunch was a frequent topic of questions with the reopening plan and I consulted with the Erie County Board of Health regarding the necessity of brown bag lunches. I was assured that brown bag lunches are NOT required and students may bring their own lunch boxes/bags from home that will be reused. We ask that students only pack lunch items they can open on their own without assistance and no microwaveable foods.

Masks and Hygiene

The Ohio Department of Health issued a mask mandate for all students K-12 for the 2020-2021 school year. St. Mary School will require masks in accordance with the state mandate as well as for the preschool (please reference preschool update in this newsletter for further guidance). Parents, please begin to work with your children on wearing masks properly and becoming comfortable wearing them.

Update: students may wear the gaiter scarf type face coverings, although the cloth masks are recommended.

Also, please practice proper hygiene as well. Please visit for guidelines.

If there are any questions regarding face coverings, please contact Mr. Mitchell at
