Partners in Education
Hope everyone had a great long weekend spent with family and friends! We are excited to have students back tomorrow. The teachers have been telling me about all the successful parent-teacher conferences that they have had over the past several weeks. We are so lucky to have parents that are truly partners in their child’s education. We have a great community of trusting adults who really want what is best for their students. We all work hard each and every day to make students grow. Thank you for playing such an important role in the NPE Community!
I wanted to also extend Thank You to our PTA for hosting a fantastic Pops, Pizza & Hoops event (see pictures below). We had a great turnout this year, that included lots of DADS…which we love to see! Please join us at our next PTA supported events-Chick-Fil-A (Thursday), Red Ribbon Week (Oct. 29th-Nov. 2nd) and Taste of New Prospect (Nov. 8th)! Or email me if you want to volunteer. Our PTA, supported by you financially and through volunteer hours, truly make NPE so successful! Thank you for all of your support!

IOWA Assessment-Only 3rd & 5th Grade
Students in 3rd and 5th grades will take the IOWA Assessments this month. Our testing dates run from October 22-25 with makeup days on the following Friday and Monday. All of our testing will be completed online in the mornings between 8-10 am and 3rd and 5th grade students will test on the same days. The schedule is below:
Monday, October 22 – Reading and Vocabulary
Tuesday, October 23 - Math and Computation
Wednesday, October 24 - Spelling, Capitalization, Punctuation and Written Expression
Thursday, October 25 - Science and Social Studies
Friday, October 26 – Make up Testing

The IOWA is not an assessment that students need to study for. The best preparation is be sure your children are getting plenty of rest, that they eat a healthy breakfast, and that they arrive at school on time on testing days.
From Mrs. Bercher in the Media Center
It was a great week in the Media Center! Our Brain Building Day featured Digital Citizenship lessons for Kindergarten and Third grade. Nonfiction lessons are being taught in the classrooms all around school..... second, fourth, and fifth grades are learning to find nonfiction books using the Dewey Decimal system and the Destiny online catalog. Students can access their online media center/library accounts by logging using the Destiny app in our school Launchpad. We also had a visit from Happy Tails Pet Therapy animals; they visited Kindergarten and North Metro classes.
Thursday Folders: You will receive Family Tip sheets from Common Sense Media; this is a great way to learn about Digital Citizenship.
Birthday Book Club: Flyers will be going home in Thursday folders. For $15, parents can sponsor a commemorative book for their child in the Media Center. Here’s how it works: the student will choose a book from our Birthday Book selection; and gets a picture with the book, a letter from Ms. Lemons, a birthday pencil, and a nameplate inside the book. The student is the first to check it out; then the book is returned to the Media Center for others to enjoy for many years.
Book Fair: Our Scholastic book fair begins 11/5; the theme is "Enchanted Forest: Let Your Imagination Grow". Here is the schedule:
11/5 Book fair set up 8-1; Teacher book fair preview 1-3
11/7-9 Preview days for homeroom teachers
11/8 We will be open during Taste of New Prospect, 6-7:30 pm
11/12-14 Buying days; open 7:10 - 2 pm
11/15 Last day to buy; open 7:10-3:30 pm.
11/16 No sales; pack up book fair.
