4-H Council Elections - Vote This Week
NUCKOLLS COUNTY - Please follow this link to cast your vote for council members. You can use this link multiple times, but you MUST type the new voter's name. Duplicate ballots will be discarded. All enrolled 4-H volunteers, 4-H members, and parents/guardians of 4-H members can vote for 4-H Council.
The deadline to cast your vote is Friday, November 6 at 12 noon.

NE Fed Steer Challenge 2021
NE Fed Steer Challenge 2021 is now accepting applications! Applications due December 1st and are submitted via Qualtrics. Please find the flyer attached along with a social media graphic to share on your social media channels and in your county newsletters/email blasts. About the program: The Nebraska 4-H Fed Steer Challenge is an opportunity for youth interested in learning more about the cattle industry and is designed to cultivate the next generation of leaders in the Nebraska cattle industry. The goal of the Fed Steer Challenge is to enhance the educational value of the traditional 4-H beef projects by providing an affordable option that rewards production merit and carcass value of the market animal, along with accurate and complete record-keeping, industry knowledge, and producer engagement by the 4-H member.

STATE 4-H LIVING ROOM LEARNING
Living Room Learning offers free and live hands-on virtually guided activities for youth. Each session focuses on a new activity that can be done with materials found at home. Living Room Learning activities are perfect for youth in K-5th grades. Each session is recorded and made available for on-demand viewing. Youth do not need to be 4-H members to participate. Wellness in Tough Times Chat Café
The Wellness in Tough Times Chat Café is happening now through December. Wellness in Tough Times Chat Café is a series of anonymous group phone conversations that offer a safe time to share what’s on your mind and connect with other Nebraskans who are facing similar challenges. Therapists from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies will be on the line to help callers work though issues connected to natural disaster recovery and gain skills to improve lives. You may ask questions or just listen. Everyone is welcome!

STATE CONTESTS
PASE, Life Challenge and State Public Speaking Contest Save the Date
Please mark down in your calendars the 2021 dates for Premier Animal Science Event (PASE), Life Challenge and the State Public Speaking Contest. The event is tentatively scheduled to be held at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, East Campus in Lincoln.
We cannot predict the status of the pandemic this far in advance or the directives of local health officials and the University guidelines, but we wanted to put a tentative date on your calendar.
PASE and Life Challenge: Monday, June 28 and Tuesday, June 29
State Public Speaking Contest: Wednesday, June 30
COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS
Next Chapter at Nebraska is a college and career readiness program designed for high school students. Scholars will engage in events, activities, and curriculum where they will participate in exploring future career possibilities, develop research skills, and experience a variety of learning techniques to help them transition to and succeed in college. Any 8th grade student enrolled in 4-H is automatically pre-admitted to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Students are not required to be enrolled in 4-H to participate in the program. Upon program completion and meeting admissions requirements, program participants can be fully admitted to the University. Fee waivers exist for those planning to pursue a degree at UNL.
This program is provided in a variety of settings by trained Nebraska Extension—4-H Educators across the state including classroom settings, regional retreats, community 4-H clubs, and online.
If you/your child is interested, please sign up through the link and an educator will be in contact with you shortly about potential options in your area.
Don and Martha Romeo Scholarship Info
Applications should be submitted to the Extension office via hard copy by Monday, November 30, 2020.This Scholarship is awarded during the Nebraska Association of Fair Managers Convention Banquet, which will be held in Kearney, Nebraska, on Saturday, January 23, 2021. Winners will be notified by January 4, 2021. You can find the scholarship application under 4-H Resources on the Southern Plains Extension web site.
