Greene Students Honor Veterans

One of our BEST teachers in Sycamore, Bridget Katchman, has been working hard to prepare our students for Veterans Day. Every year she has each student on the Orange Team honor a veteran. Below are pictures of her "display" in her room.

November Staff Member of the Month!

Mrs. Reinhart was selected as the November Staff Member of the Month! Students who nominated her said she always has a positive attitude and makes concepts easier to understand by explaining them well. Great work Mrs. Reinhart!!

Is there a teacher you would like to honor? Fill out this form and return it to the Greene School office!

Canned Food Drive!

Our Student Council is once again sponsoring our annual canned food drive! The drive will end on Friday November 18th. Students are encouraged to bring canned foods, non-perishable food products or personal care products to their home room class where they will be collected and donated to the Freestore Foodbank and N.E.E.D.S. Collection bins will be placed in the front office lobby. The Freestore suggest the following items that are always needed: canned meat products (tuna, chicken, ham, spaghetti with meatballs, chili with meat and beans, beef stew, beans, etc.) peanut butter, canned vegetables and fruits. Other non-perishable items needed include canned soups, macaroni and cheese, personal care items such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, tooth brushes, feminine hygiene products and disposable diapers. No glass items please!

Our Book Fair was a Success, Thanks to the Volunteers!

We'd like to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to those who volunteered at and / or supported the Greene School book fair last week. With your help, we were able to put A LOT of great books into the hands of A LOT of great kids! We greatly appreciate your devotion to literacy.

As a result of the book fair, the Greene School media center profited approximately $3,000. Of that profit, we gained about $1,100 worth of physical books chosen from the Joseph Beth book fair tables. The remaining $1,900 will be used to build the Greene School eBook and audiobook collections. We quite literally couldn't have done it without you---our volunteers and our shoppers! THANKS AGAIN!

P.S. A big shout out to Bruegger's Bagels, Starbucks, and Kroger for the donations which allowed us to have the Books & Bagels teacher event to help kick off the Fair, and to Mr. Tony Gribi who ensured those donations.

Optional CogAT Testing

An optional administration of the CogAT for gifted service will be offered on Tuesday, December 6th at Greene.

Who should take this test?

  • Current 5th grade students who are NOT in Accelerated Math or Advanced Language, but have 2 scores of 95th percentile or higher on their Math or Reading MAP within the last 12 months. These 5th grade students should register for the test and will need to score a 128 on the CogAT for placement into 6th grade Accelerated Math and/or Advanced Language.

  • Current 5th or 6th grade Accelerated Math students who are interested in taking Double Accelerated Math and have 2 scores of 98th percentile or higher on their Math MAP within the last 12 months. These students should register for the test and will need to score a 144 on the CogAT for placement into 6th or 7th grade Double Accelerated Math.

Unless testing for Double Accelerated Math, current accelerated students do NOT need a CogAT score to re-qualify for Advanced Language or Accelerated Math. Nor is the CogAT needed for any junior high placements (with the exception of Double Accelerated Math).

If your child meets the criteria and you would like to have him/her tested, please click on the link below to register for CogAT Testing by November 30th.
