Winter Wonderland Party

Which Company?
Pizza Palace
Pizza Palace has provided choices of various numbers of people they will supply food for at a set price. They serve groups of 20, 50,100, and 150 with a set up fee of $50. Pizza Palace is the best choice for providing parties because they give decent prices for any number of people per party. Although Pizza Palace creates the illusion that their parties cost more with the larger set up fee, it actually cost much less than the other competing companies. Whether you are hosting large or small parties Pizza Palace always has the lowest prices.
Critical Thinking Questions
1. Describe the steps you used to solve each row of the table.
I created an equation that had an exponent that represented the number of people. Therefore, I can have any number of people and supply enough food.
2. Will there ever be a number of students where both companies will cost the same? Describe the steps you would use and then solve for the number of students for which both companies will cost the same amount.
Both Stacked and Pizza Palace will cost the same at 20 people. To figure this out I simply repetitively plugged in different numbers of people in my equation until I reached a spot where 2 companies had the same amount of people.
3. How do the steps you followed in Question 2 compare to the Order of Operations?
To solve for order of operations you have to use PEMDAS which is a certain order in which an equation is to be solved, I had to use PEMDAS to solve my equation in the correct order to get the right results.
4. If you only have a budget of $1000 for food, how many people, maximum, would you be able to have at the 7th Grade Blowout? Can you have a decimal or fraction as part of your answer? Why or why not?
You could have 118 people attend the party. The decimal cannot be included in the answer because there cannot be ¾ of a person.
Which Company?
Proposed Plan:
Classic Spin is the most reasonable choice when searching for music. They play music for a variety of 2, 4, 6 and 8 hours. Whether you are jamming out for just a few hours or the entire night Classic Spin is sure to please music taste and financial state. The competing company, Spin City seems like a better choice with the lack of a set up fee Classic Spin is cheaper. If you compare the total cost of music at each company for 8 hours there is a drastic $45 difference. Classic Spin is the perfect choice of DJ for your party
Critical Thinking Questions
1. Describe the steps you used to solve each row of the table.
I created an equation that would give me the amount of money it would be to supply music for a variety of hours. I plugged in the number of hours as the x value and solved in the order of operations.
2. Will there ever be a number of hours where both companies will cost the same?
Describe the steps you would use and then solve for the number of hours for which both companies will cost the same amount.
When Classic Spin is at 3.529 hours and Spin City is at 3 hours it will cost $300.
4. If you only have a budget of $1000 for a DJ or music company, how many hours, maximum, would you be able to afford? Can you have a decimal or fraction as part of your answer? Why or why not?
The maximum amount of hours able to be supplied within the budget of $1000 is 10 hours. A decimal can be part of the answer because you can do ½ hours and anything with specific minutes.
