News from Oakhurst
From the Principal
Greetings Owl Families,
It's so hard to believe this is the final newsletter for this school year. Thank you for an amazing year. This one is certainly one we will never forget. We are hoping to see you all for the parade tomorrow. If it is raining at noon, the parade will be postponed. If we need to postpone, we will also send out an e-blast.
Over the summer please check our website often for updates related to Kindergarten 101, Yearbook pick up, plans for returning to school in the fall, and details regarding Meet and Greet. We will also send out a few eblasts regarding these details.
Since this is our final newsletter I'd like to give a few shout outs.
- Thanks to our amazing PTA Board for supporting our students and staff this year. Kim Siders, Brianna Pigford, Kevin Delaney, Anne Shin, Amber Harris, Keith Weisinger, John Dutko, and Heather Borowski it was a true pleasure working so closely with you.
- Thanks to our other PTA leaders such as Erica Udell (Room Parent Coordinator), Lisa Collins (Teacher Appreciation Chair), Laura Willard and crew (Yearbook), auction volunteers/leaders, and Lindsey Duvall and Kathryn Pearson (Read-A-Thon), room parents, and all other PTA Committee Leaders for leading in such a special way.
- Thanks to all our parent community who continuously support our teachers/staff! We are so blessed to have an active parent community
- Two of our teachers are moving on. Best wishes to Heather Borowski as she goes into retirement and Kate Hollingsworth as she transitions to F.AVE. We are blessed to have worked with both of you.
- Thanks to the hard working staff of Oakhurst for being so amazing! A principal could not ask for a better staff!
Our staff is looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow when we do our End of Year Staff Car Parade. We hope to see all of you, from a distance of course. The details are listed below.
Student Materials Pick-up:
On June 1st from 1:30pm-3:30pm we will do a drive through pick up. Parents of all students should participate in the pick-up since we have a bag of materials for all. Please email me if you cannot come during the time frame and we will arrange for a different pickup time or hold items until fall. Unfortunately, the yearbook will not be included in this pickup. You will receive information later regarding pickup for those. Please adhere to the following details:
Pickup goes from 1:30-3:30pm. We will have two lines.
Kindergarten and first grade parents should drive up in the car rider lane.
Second grade parents will pull into the front parking lot.
In an effort to maximize safety efforts, we are asking the following:
- Please do not walk up. Driving will allow us to safely maintain distance.
- Do not come if you have reason to believe you have been exposed to COVID-19. We will hold on to your child's belongings if you cannot make it.
- Open your trunk when you pull up so that we can quickly place the bag inside without contact.
Chromebook return:
At this time, we will not be collecting Chromebooks unless you absolutely want to return them. If so, you can do so when you come for materials pick-up. Otherwise, you can keep them until we announce a return date.
Library Book return:
If your child has any Oakhurst library books at home, you may drop them off at Oakhurst tomorrow between 9:30-1:30 through May 22. There will be a cart outside the Kindergarten wing doors (where rainy day pickup happens).

Nurse Notes
As we wrap up this school year, I am hopeful that our Oakhurst families continue to stay safe and well over the summer. Please encourage our Oakhurst owls to practice good handwashing and avoid touching the T-zone. The CSD School Health team will continue to collaborate with state and local resources as we map out what school will look like next year and how we can best support keeping everyone safe and healthy.
Well Visits/Immunizations
During the summer months, if your child is due for a well visit and/or immunizations, please reach out to your pediatrician to determine safe ways to continue preventive care. The American Academy of Pediatrics has noted a significant decrease in the number of well-child visits during the pandemic. The concern arises regarding delayed vaccinations resulting in the possibility of secondary outbreaks related to vaccine-preventable illnesses. In addition, there are concerns that postponing well care visits can result in delays in appropriate screenings and referrals for children in need. Accordingly, the AAP has provided guidance for pediatricians to support continued preventive care during the pandemic.

Survey for Parents of Students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
Each year the Georgia DOE sends a parent engagement survey to gather feedback regarding our special education services. Currently our school has the lowest completion rate 2/22 parents (9%). Please see the message below and kindly complete the survey if your student is serviced in our special education program. Thanks in advance for your help.
Dear CSD parents/guardians of students with disabilities under IDEA, The IDEA Parent Survey will be open from January 15, 2020 – May 31, 2020. The IDEA Parent Survey helps the state to determine parents’ perception of the success of parent engagement between the local school and themselves. The information is gathered as a component of the State Performance Plan, Indicator 8: Percent of parents with a student receiving special education services who report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving results for children with disabilities. The data collected is reported in the Annual Performance Report and on the system profile about each system. Each state is required to conduct a parent survey collection process to measure parent/family needs and perceptions. Georgia’s parent survey is available to all families of students with disabilities. The survey will be administered through an online link and can be found on the websites listed below. Direct link to the parent survey: www.gadoe.org/Parent-Survey Websites: GaDOE http://www.gadoe.org/ci_exceptional.aspx or Ga Parent Mentor Partnership www.parentmentors.org or Parent to Parent of Georgia www.p2pga.org For Technical Assistance please contact: Problems with the online survey: Submit a dticket@doe.k12.ga.us or call 800-869-1011. F.Ave School Supplies
We know it's hard to think about back-to-school shopping, especially right now. Though we aren’t exactly sure as to when we will be able to return safely… there will be a first day of school. And, we want to help prepare your rising 3rd grader for a successful 1st day at F.Ave!
That’s why our PTO is continuing its partnership with 1st Day School Supplies to make shopping for back-to-school supplies turn-key (not to mention, germ-free) In just a few clicks, you can get the exact supplies needed for the 2020-2021 school year – without the risk or hassle of shopping at a big-box store.
Click here to see the supply lists and order your child’s kit today! There’s even the option to donate a little extra to help fund a teacher’s “wish list” as well as purchase an extra kit for a student in need… if you feel so inclined.
The order deadline is June 15 and this program is 100% optional. You are always welcome to shop on your own, if that’s more your style.
We wish you all a restful summer. And, we look forward to welcoming our newest class of rising 3 rd graders and their families to F.Ave in the Fall!
