We are so excited to welcome the following people to the SMGCS Staff this school year!

Business Manager

Edie Lewis is a mother, grandmother, and business office manager. She enjoys spending time with her family and pets, especially outdoor activities. She is a current student at Tarleton State University completing her degree in business and accounting. She has managed multiple medical practices utilizing her skills in operations management, bookkeeping, and accounting management. She is very excited about this opportunity to work with the staff, students, church, and community at Saint Maria Goretti School.

Atrium Director

My name is Alex Massengale and I am excited to be sharing the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd with the children in the Atrium this year. I am a parishioner of SMG Church and have 2 children currently attending SMGCS. I look forward to helping our youngest Trojans grow their relationship with Christ.

2nd grade

Hi there! My name is Abbey Lewis! I am so excited to be back with the SMG Family this year!!! I have a background in Special Education and I previously taught at SMG in the learning lab. I have a passion for working with children and I am thrilled for the chance to share my love of the Catholic faith in my classroom this year! I am a blessed wife of almost 23 years and a mother of two boys ages 20 and 16!!

4/5 Math and Science, 4th Homeroom

My name is Sr. Mary Monica Tram Vu, and I am a Dominican of the Sisters of Mary Immaculate Province in Houston, Texas. I grew up in a large family, and I love spending time with others, especially my family and my sisters in the convent. I also enjoy playing the organ and piano because it helps me to lift up my heart and soul toward God through my favorite songs. I graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor’s in Mathematics and have a background in STEM for high school Math and Science. This year, I am blessed with the opportunity to teach 4th & 5th grade Math and Science at SMGCS. I am so thankful to be a part of the SMGCS community, and I am excited to journey with my new students this year.

5th Homeroom Teacher

Mrs. Zavala will be the new 5th-grade homeroom teacher. Mrs. Zavala and her family have been SMG parishioners for many years. Her children have all attended SMGCS. She is excited to be in the homeroom with the 5th-grade class.

4/5 History

Mrs. Vasquez is a native to Seguin, Texas, and has served in education for 10 years. This will be her 4th wonderful year as a faculty member at SMGCS. She has taught Literature, English, Religion, & Social Studies in both public and Catholic schools grades 4-8. Mrs. Vasquez previously served as an assistant principal with Dallas ISD. She holds a BA in Interdisciplinary Reading and English from St. Mary’s University, San Antonio, a Master of Education from the University of Notre Dame, and a Master of Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas.

Mrs. Vasquez is a parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where she was married to her husband, Vincent, in 2018. They welcomed their son, Maximo, in 2020 and look forward to him becoming a Trojan! Mrs. Vasquez is grateful for the opportunity to continue to share her love for a Catholic education that nurtures every student and looks forward to helping lead the SMG Trojans family this school year!

4/5 Religion

Mrs. Utendorf will be teaching 4th and 5th-grade religion this year. She is an alumnus of St. Rita's Catholic School and Nolan Catholic. She attended St. Edwards University and Tarleton State. She and her husband Kevin were married at SMG and both her boys went through SMGCS. In her 20+ years at SMGCS, she has taught 4th and 5th religion before. She is looking forward to being in the classroom with the students and sharing her faith with them.

Athletic Director

Josh has served as a Coach for Track & Field, Football, and Basketball at the Middle School and High School levels since 2018. In the past, he has served as Middle School Throwing Coach, Assistant Varsity Throwing Coach, and Assitant Middle School Football Coach at Pantego Christian Academy. He most recently served as an Assistant Football Coach and Shot Put & Discus Coach at Nolan Catholic High School and as Head MS Boys Basketball Coach and Head Track & Field Coach here at SMG! Josh is looking forward to helping grow and strengthen our Athletics program while also preparing students Physically, Mentally, and Spiritually to give their best to honor God through athletics.
