Swansboro High School
March 10, 2019
Happy Sunday Pirate Families!
It's been an action packed start to March at Swansboro High School! Last week included a ton of athletic events and our first lacrosse game, our student vs staff basketball game, an unexpected workday and an arts assembly. Congratulations to our Battle of the Books team who competed at the district competition on Monday and placed 4th in the county. This weekend included the conclusion of the HOSA annual conference. We had 46 student participate and 10 who qualified to go on to the national competition in June. Our Parliamentary Procedures team took 1st place at states! Our robotics team spent the weekend in Holly Springs competing in their first competition of the season, ladies soccer traveled to Wilson for a weekend of games and our chorus students set the bar at MPA. Our quintet and all solos received ratings of superior. Well done Pirates!
This is a big week at Swansboro High School. We will host a group of 30 students and professors from NC State on Monday morning. Be sure to wear your wolf pack gear if you are an NC State fan! Tuesday is the ACT for all juniors. Please encourage students to get plenty of rest, to eat a healthy breakfast and to be on time. Parents please also remember that there are no early check-outs for juniors during testing. We will also host a team from the National Math and Science Initiative on Thursday as part of our grant application process. If selected, Swansboro High School will receive financial support to support students participating in AP and Honors courses during the 2019/2020 school year.
Our counselors will start meeting with students this week to discuss the 19/20 school year and class registration. Parents should ask your students about class selection sheets and discuss choices and decisions. Athletics this week will include golf at Bear Trail, track at home and soccer at New Hanover on Monday, tennis at JHS and lacrosse at APA on Tuesday, softball at Croatan on Wednesday, softball at Laney and tennis at Havelock on Thursday and soccer at Clinton and lacrosse at Jacksonville on Friday.
Student volunteers are needed for the Swansboro Oyster Roast next Saturday. Please encourage your student to sign up at: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=2oj0MM90xkqfNEBYMyDapI14msEKMxRElyua-wd6_F5UOTlBMFU2R0xKMFJHSUlYSktTNUFJSzZZRC4u
