Uss Maine Explosion

In the late nineteenth century, the American battleship Maine exploded in Havana harbor. Yellow journalists such as hearst made sensationalizing articles on the event inflaming public opinion of Spain, the supposed cause of the explosion.
Significances
Because of the yellow journalism after the incident, public opinion towards Spain became very negative. Already mounting tensions combined and made the spanish American war possible.
