HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELING BULLETIN
November/December 2021
A Note From The Department
A goal for the Mt. Lebanon High School Counseling Department is to increase communication between school counselors, students and parents/guardians. We have always communicated information through the Counseling Bulletin.
This Bulletin contains information for students so that they may be aware of meetings, programs, scholarships, deadlines for tests and current college and vocational information. The Bulletins are posted on our website, emailed to families and listed in the Mt. Lebanon High School Administration's Weekly Update. Be sure you have updated your email addresses in Dashboard so that you will continue to receive this valuable information in a timely fashion.
Information and/or deadlines that we receive in between Bulletin publications will be communicated through the Mt. Lebanon High School Administration's Weekly Update.
Welcome new school counselor Rachel Jackson!

RICHARD J. MADDEN SCHOLARSHIP - JUNIORS ONLY
The Richard J. Madden Scholarship, established in 2003 by Mr. Madden, a Mt. Lebanon alumni, is awarded annually to one junior student at Mt. Lebanon High School. The recipient may receive up to $12,500 per year, a maximum of $50,000 total, if a 3.0 grade point average is maintained at the student's post secondary selection. This scholarship opportunity is offered each year to juniors who plan to attend a two or four year college or technical school within the United States. Financial need is one of the most important criteria during the review of applications.
Juniors and their families will be notified via email when applications for the Madden Scholarship are available.

2. Meditation. There are plenty of YouTube instructional videos or smartphone apps. This is something you can do anytime in any place.
3. Yoga. Yoga and other types of Eastern methods of activity involve stretching, improving flexibility, connecting mind and body – all of which are helpful for stress reduction and wellness.
4. Exercise. Working out comes in many forms. Sometimes it's as simple as taking a walk.
5. Get some sleep.
6. Creative expression. Choose a creative outlet to convey your thoughts and feelings. This could be journaling, writing poetry, painting or drawing, doing photography, dancing, or playing music.
7. Play with a pet.
8. Meet and communicate IN PERSON with friends and family.
9. Appreciate nature. Get some fresh air.
10. Turn off smart phones (at least for part of the day). It’s hard. But you don't need it on constantly, as if it’s stitched to your side.
11. Do something for someone else. Our brains are wired for giving.
