Cinco De Mayo
History of Cinco de Mayo
During the French-Mexican War, the Mexicans were poorly outnumbered and supplied so their commander came up with a plan and he took on a debt from France, Britain and Spain. Two years later he was not able to pay these debts so the three european countries came to negotiate. Britain and France withdrew but France wanted to overthrow Mexico and take it. Napoleon the third took an opportunity to overthrow Mexico and tried to invade the city of Puebla with 6,ooo french soldiers. The french were defeated though and never took over because the town was fortified. Jaurez sent his most trusted and loyal soldiers to the city to defend.
