COVID-19 Quarantine Changes for Michigan and WBSD
As a result of the changes in isolation and quarantine guidance form the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Wayne County Health Department, effective today, Jan 12 our procedures as it relates to COVID-19 in schools will be changing. It is important to note that the universal mask mandate in all schools is unchanged and continues to be in effect.
* Students and staff currently on quarantine as a school-associated close contact may return to school (provided they are symptom-free).
Quarantine length for positive cases has been reduced as well. (Day 0 is the day symptoms started or they tested positive and then you go from there for Day 1- 2-3-4- 5. For example, an individual that tests positive on a Tuesday could return the following Monday. Someone who tests positive/or has symptoms starting on a Friday would return the following Thursday, etc.)
Mr. Greathead's informational letter is below with the specifics.
New COVID-19 Notifications
Please note, beginning tomorrow, we will email parents if their child was in a class with a student or staff member who was reported as a positive case. The email will look something like the blurb below. We will no longer send mass emails to the whole school. This should be more relevant to families as you will know when to keep a closer eye on your child.
Dear Parents,
On {DATE} a confirmed case of COVID-19 was identified in your child's classroom.
As such, you are advised to be extra attentive in monitoring your child for COVID-19 symptoms in the coming days. The WCHD Screener for Families is an excellent tool for monitoring for symptoms and should be used on a daily basis before school attendance.
If you find that your child is experiencing potential COVID-19 related symptoms, please keep your child home from school and contact the main office.
Additional strategies in place for maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment are:
- universal masking for all in the school setting continues to be required and enforced
- students and staff that are not feeling well should stay home from school
- social distancing to the extent possible continues to be practiced
- frequent handwashing and good hygiene practices
- per the MDHHS, it is recommended that all students, teachers, and staff age 5 and up get vaccinated, and that students, teachers, and staff age 12 and up receive their booster shot as soon as they're eligible
Daily Health Screenings!
I want to thank all of our families for being super diligent in completing a health screen on our Gators every morning. I know child care can be challenging and children are excited to get back to school, but if they are not healthy, please keep them home. Thank you for doing your part to assist us in maintaining a health, safe environment.
COVID Vaccine clinic at WHS on 2.28.22
The Wayne County Health Department will be coming for an additional vaccine clinic on Monday February 7th from 3 to 5 at WHS in the cafeteria and second date on February 28th from 3 to 5. All vaccines will be available including first doses, second doses and boosters for ages 12 and up if eligible.
Cold Morning Line-Ups!
Thank you, for parking in the visitor's lot when walking your children to the front doors.
Prepare for the Cold Weather!
BRRRR!!!!
Please make sure that your children come dressed for the weather. Until the wind-chill dips below 20°, we go outside for recess, so warm coats, gloves and hats are a must.
Please remember to label student clothing.
Particularly for the little ones.
Be Cool!

FREE MEALS CONTINUE FOR ALL STUDENTS!
GREAT NEWS:
The USDA extended free meal distribution to all (Yes, ALL students!) students through 2021.22 school year.
Don't forget that we have Hungry Howie's Pizza every Tuesday and Thursday!
Birthday Celebrations!
Birthday Celebrations!
Every child’s birthday is important. However, we must take more care when sending birthday treats to school. In addition to pandemic related precautions, we must also consider student food allergies, student diabetes, and our national push for healthy eating. If you wish to send a prepackaged birthday treat, you will need to either send the treats in with your child in the morning or pull into one of the parent parking spots and call the office to have us come out and pick up the treats from you. Please make sure that the pre-packaged treats have the ingredients listed on the packages. Please label the treats with your child’s name and classroom teacher. Parents will not be allowed to deliver treats into their child’s classroom.
