Update from Sugar Land MS - September 23, 2019
Weekly Update - September 23, 2019
Titan Parents,
Thank you for your patience and understanding with our extremely long early pick-up line on Thursday last week during the severe weather event. Please read Thursday's parent communication, if you haven't already. Safety is our top priority. Because FBISD was closed on Friday, which was also the close of the grading period for Progress Report 2 (PR2), the district has made some adjustments to the calendar. Progress Report 2 will end on Monday, September 23, instead. There were some tests, quizzes, and assignments scheduled for last Friday, which would be counted on Progress Report 2, and this adjustment by the district will allow for that to still occur. This progress report is also a state-required six-week grade check, known as "No-Pass/No-Play," as well. Students who are failing a class at PR2 will become academically ineligible to participate in extracurricular events for a three week period starting September 30. They may regain their eligibility at the end of Term 1 on October 10.
Parents of 8th grade students should check out the item in this newsletter related to High School Academies. FBISD has many opportunities for students, and it's already time to start thinking about high school!
This weekend, a crew of former SLMS Titans (current Kempner HS students) came by the school and helped paint a wall in the front of the building. There is still a little work left to be done (like a second coat), so we look forward to seeing that hallway in its final form in the near future. One of our painters was actually a parent who attended SLMS when she was in middle school! See photo below. Thank you to these students for paying it forward and for their servant leadership, demonstrating the attributes of the FBISD Profile of a Graduate!
We hope to see you at this week's Mid-Day Break with the Counselors (11:15 AM on Wednesday) and also at our Spirit Night at RC' Tex-Mex on Thursday evening. We are re-launching our Laptop Lending Library through our Library/Media Center. Check out the article below.
Have a great week, and don't forget that this Friday is a school holiday - the Fort Bend County Fair Day! Be sure to follow us on Twitter at @SLMSTitans, and keep an eye on our campus website, as well.

Cross Country Running - New Opportunity
We are excited to announce a potential new opportunity for our 7th and 8th grade students--Cross Country Running (XC). An interest meeting will occur after school on Thursday, September 26 (rescheduled). Students may ride the 5:15 tutorial bus (next item) if needed. Please complete this brief form so that we may determine interest level ahead of the meeting on September 26 (rescheduled due to the severe weather day on Sept. 19). Packets of information will also be distributed during lunches this week, just so we can get a head start. Students may not start practicing with the team until all paperwork is on file, including a physical. See below.
Students will need to have a physical on file (download form here), and also complete forms online in Rank One.
Laptop Lending Library
We are pleased to announce the re-launch of our Laptop Lending Library. Students will have the opportunity to check out a touch-screen laptop, with carrying case and charging cable, for two weeks, just they would check out a book. Some paperwork is required to be completed by parents, first, however. Please visit our Laptop Lending Library page or contact Mr. Sinclair, our Librarian or Mrs. Smith, our Library Aide, for more details.
