Mr. Tutt
Tim Tutt – also known as Mr. T, Big T, or “the Bear” to his students - began his career in the Des Moines Public Schools (DMPS) in August 1989, after student teaching at three DMPS schools, and graduating from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). His first job with DMPS was as a half-time second grade teacher in at Brooks School in Des Moines’ east side, and as a part-time teacher’s aide in a nursery at the North Alternative High School. Tutt was born in a small town in Kentucky in 1963, and became an Iowan when moving to Davenport in 1970.
He started teaching at Hanawalt in the fall of 1990 as a part-time third-grade teacher, and then became a full-time third-grade teacher the following year. “It’s been so rewarding to see students minds open in class, then watch them grow up over the last 30 years. I absolutely love reconnecting with former students and parents and hearing their stories when we cross paths.” says Tutt. “Now I’m starting to have former students’ kids in class. Last year, I was even asked to officiate the wedding of a former student, which was wonderful!”
In his free time, “Mr. T” enjoys visiting family and friends, being an uncle, bowling in a league at Merle Hay Lanes, game nights, traveling, watching trains, officiating weddings for friends and family, listening to electronic music, cooking, and weekend TV binges.
His biggest reward of all, began to happen nearly 35 years ago at UNI, when one of his best friends in college was in a bind, and needed a babysitter when she returned to UNI as a single-parent student. Thirty-five years, and many experiences later, that babysitting gig led to Mr. T becoming a “Dad” to a wonderful young man. Now that young man is married – in a wedding officiated by Mr. Tutt – and Mr. Tutt has become a very proud, doting grandfather to two beautiful girls, ages 14 and 3, who lovingly call him “Grandpa Bear”.

Hello Hanawalt Friends!
I miss you all so much. I hope you are safe and healthy.
We are keeping busy at the Beeman house. Anne is home from St. Louis University and she turned 21 on March 30. She is keeping very busy with her course work and continues to paint and has taken up paint by number. Luke and Kate spend time doing school work, reading, playing cards and boardgames, doing puzzles, and video games. I've been enjoying walking, reading, playing games, baking, cleaning and organizing, crocheting and watching movies.
I hope you are all finding fun things to do. I treasure this time with my family. I really look forward to seeing you all in the future!

Hello Hanawalt! I miss you all so much that I walked by Hanawalt with my dog Dino yesterday. Dino loves all the extra attention and so does our cat, Jupiter. I am keeping busy by cooking big meals, playing games with my family, and exercising. I have a goal of being able to do one pull up before May 1st. I’ve also been spending more time reading and listening to music. I love hearing from my students and friends at work so please email or text and let me know what’s new!

Hi everyone! Miss you all and hope you are all staying home and are safe and healthy! My spring break was a great week in Mexico spending time with Ty and his friends for his senior trip. I finally got to swim with the dolphins which has been my number one bucket list thing to do. Dolphins are amazing mammals and I can now say that is one day I will never forget!! I spent a lot of time at the pools and the beaches And enjoy the nice sunshine, however I’m glad we made it back safe and sound! Since being home I’ve been staying busy going on bike rides, long walks and a lot of FaceTime with friends! I miss everyone and hope you are staying busy and active!

Hi Hanawalt family! I am missing you all. I hope you all are keeping busy and enjoying time with your families. My family and I have been keeping busy by spending a lot of time together. We have been on walks and have even ventured to Red Rock to hike the trails there. Our flowers are starting to come up so I cleaned out some of flowerbeds. My son helped me paint the entryway of our house. It looks so much nicer now. We have started to put together a 1,000 piece puzzle of Wrigley Field. I think that will take us a long time. Last weekend my daughter and I pulled out the old Wii game out of the basement. We had so much fun. We laughed more than we have in a long time. I am not a very good video game player. However, I did beat her in bowling. I have also had to help my own kids with their online schooling. This time has brought our family closer together.
Take care and be safe!!!

Oh Hanawalt, how I have missed you!!
I miss seeing the happy faces of my students and my teaching friends! However, my NEW co-workers Miles (9 months) and Samuel (2 years) are pretty great too. They have been keeping me busy. Of course, we have been loving the warm weather. We’ve been playing in the sand table, using chalk, bubbles, and Sam’s been riding his balance bike. Some days have been rainy and chilly but we’ve had fun those days as well! We have made watercolor paintings and created racetracks for hot wheel cars out of old cardboard boxes. Between naps we have also played indoor hopscotch using tape on the floor and played “food truck.” I have even had Sam help me make desserts like brownies and cookies a few times.
I can’t wait to see you all again!
Miss DeBolt now Mrs. Lindsey
Hello Hawks!
In the last few weeks so much has happened! Right before spring break, as many of you will remember, I got married and am now Mrs. Lindsey! I have been going on walks everyday and enjoying the nice spring weather we have. I have of course been creating and doing some kind of art each day. This week so far, it has been knitting, drawing a self portrait, taking pictures, and making friendship bracelets. There was also a day that I made home made jam, and it was delicious!
I hope you are all doing well!
