by Marcus Luttrell
Marcus grew up in Houston, Texas. In his teen years he decided he wanted to join the Special Forces of the U.S. Military. So he had U.S. Army Veteran Billy Shelton train him since he was 14 years old. After high school he goes to college at Sam Houston State University, and after college he enlisted in the U.S Navy, later to become a SEAL. The first half of Lone Survivor is all about the training the U.S. Navy SEALS go through, with much detail. The second half is about the mission after which the book is named, and how he survived.
