Year 7 Camp and Year 8 EOTC

7 September 2021

Dear Parents and Caregivers

It is with regret that we must inform you that we have decided to cancel the Year 7 Camp and Year 8 EOTC. There were a number of factors which led to this decision, including not knowing what alert level Auckland would be in, taking students out of Auckland, potentially to an area with a lower alert level for the camp, and taking Year 8 students to public venues for EOTC. In addition, we have not, and will not have the necessary time to meet with parent helpers or prepare the students.

We understand your child will be upset at our decision; we too are disappointed. However, your child’s health and safety must always come first, and with the current COVID 19 restrictions, we decided it would be unwise to proceed with these experiences.

Please know that we have tried to set up bookings for later in the year, but have found the logistical implications unworkable. There are no bookings available at Totara Springs until mid 2022, and the six locations for EOTC cannot be secured for all students due to reduced group sizes and limited availability. All venues are also open to the public and are unable to be solely for FCI use.

In due course we will refund any payments you have made towards the events. Thank you in anticipation for your patience.

A huge amount of effort has gone into the planning and preparation of these experiences. In particular, I wish to acknowledge the time Hannah Jenkin and Kathryn Ward have dedicated to the organisation. Thank you also to the parents who offered to volunteer their time to join us on the camps and at the EOTC activities.

Stay safe.

Kind regards

Tamara Jones
