A note from the Principal

Students & Families,

While the Covid-19 pandemic has presented some challenges school staff has been hard at work preparing for the start of the 2020-2021 SY and we are excited for students to begin engaging in educational activities via distance learning beginning August 31. We are committed to providing individualized Special Education services and remain confident that we will continue to review and make adjustments as needed to support all staff, students, and families.

I want to assure you that meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students remain our top priority. We appreciate your flexibility and support and look forward to working with each of you to address the unique needs of your student. I encourage you to review the information below. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us should you have specific questions or concerns that we can help address.

Take care,

Sarah Stare

Return to learn

While teachers have been hard at work over the summer they will specifically begin planning and preparing instruction this week for virtual learning to begin August 31st for students. Teachers have worked tirelessly to enhance google classrooms, resources, and instruction so that each student's needs will be met. Teachers will be in touch with families the week of August 24 to check and connect with each family to ensure a great start to the 2020-2021 school year.

*As a reminder all IEP meetings are currently being held virtually and specific information will be provided to you as needed to access meetings.

Student Instructional Day

WCPS has released expectations that set the instructional day. This information includes expectations for synchronous and asynchronous time allocations that we will follow. A sample of a student day was provided in this plan. Case Managers will be reaching out to families and students individually this week to review the daily school schedule with you.

For all students, the instructional day will begin at 9:00 AM and will include a 1hr. lunch and scheduled breaks throughout the day.

*Encore and Academic classes will now occur in the same time blocks each day for easier access and participation for students. This will allow for more consistency and routine for students and families within the school day.

IPAD Distribution

In order for our students to receive their IPADS in time for learning to begin Monday August 31st, IPADS may be picked up at the schools main office this week beginning Tuesday August 25 through Friday. August 28. We are pleased to offer both morning and afternoon pickup times. Every student will be provided an IPAD to engage in activities.

August 25, 26, 27, 28

AM pickup between 9-11

PM pickup between 1-3

Hands on Learning

We are excited to announce that students will be provided with individual instructional hands on manipulatives to support engagement in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies activities.
