Register Now! Superintendent Fun Run!
TENTH ANNIVERSARY!!
Join CFISD and Keith Elementary staff, students, community members, and business partners as we lace up our running shoes and meet at the Berry Center and Cy-Fair FCU Stadium for the tenth annual Superintendent’s Fun Run on Saturday, April 1, 2023.
The annual fundraiser benefits the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF), which awards higher education scholarships to graduating high school seniors of CFISD. For more information about CFEF, visit their website at thecfef.org. Register for the Fun Run on SchoolCash Online.
Valentine's Day Activities
Although we do not have Valentine's Day parties, students may exchange valentines at the end of the day. If you choose to send your child with valentines, please make sure you send a valentine for every child in the class. Additionally, if you choose to include candy, please make sure it is individually wrapped and store-bought. Students may eat their Valentine's Day treats once they get home.

Counselor's Corner-February 23
Hello Keith Families,
National School Counseling Week is February 6-10. The theme for this year is Helping Students Dream Big! At Keith, we are super proud to help our almost 1,200 students Dream Big.
Also in February, we celebrate Kindness Week by practicing random acts of kindness. During the first two weeks of February, your child will bring home a page of random acts of kindness tickets to fill out and return to Keith. They will be added to a bulletin board to illustrate the domino effect of kind actions.

Counselor Tips
Winter can be a particularly blue time of the year for people. Darker, rainier and colder days along with the post-holiday letdown often cause a decline in mood and motivation. It’s normal for all kids to experience emotional ups and downs, including the winter blues.
Here are some tips for helping your kids:
Acknowledge how your child is feeling.
Check in often to learn how they are doing
Listen more than you talk
Instead of trying to “fix” the problem, make sure your child feels heard and validated.
Encourage your child to accept and label their emotions
Ask your child to think of ideas for how to cope when they start to feel sad, mad, scared, or otherwise upset
Counselor Lessons
During February guidance lessons we will talk about kindness. In addition, for our younger students, we will be focusing on greeting people and giving compliments. In our 5th-grade lessons, students will discuss picking an elective option for middle school.

Credit by Exam Information
Students in grades K-5 will have four opportunities during the school year to use “credit-by-exam” to accelerate to another grade level. Students will only have one opportunity to test for each grade level considered.
Students who earn scores of 80% or better on each component of the credit-by-exam will qualify to advance one grade. Only one grade level may be “skipped” each year. No retests will be given.
