Fire Department Visit

The first week in October we had the Avon Fire Department come to visit and talk about fire safety. We always learn so much from them! We wrote thank you cards after their visit.

Science, Social, and Health

Science

We have just started working on classifying animals for our first science unit. In the animal kingdom, animals are divided into two groups: vertebrates and invertebrates. Vertebrates are broken into five groups: mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians. We will compare and contrast the different groups. We will complete the unit by playing a Jeopardy review game before we take our test. The next topic we will study is how plants and animals live together. We will learn about food chains and food webs for grasslands and oceans. We will explore how food chains and webs can change and how animals and plants can help each other.

Social Studies

Our focus for most of the month of November will be to learn about Native Americans long ago. We will compare and contrast how they lived, dressed, their homes, and the food they ate. We will also discuss the early settlers and the difficulties they faced.

New Entrance

ALL visitors need to come through the wooden door to your left after entering the first set of doors to the building. The office staff will buzz you into the building.

Halloween Party

On Friday morning we worked on pumpkin math. We estimated, measured, counted pumpkin seeds, and carved our pumpkins. Our Halloween party was a great time! We had our Witch's Brew and played a few games. It was a lot of fun!
