A Note From The Principal- Mrs. Powell
I hope this email finds you in good health and high spirits. As the summer break comes to an end, we are excited to welcome you back to Torrey Hill for another enriching and memorable academic year. Whether you're a returning student or new to our school community, we're thrilled to have you with us.
The start of a new school year is always a special time – a chance to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and embark on fresh learning adventures. Our dedicated faculty and staff have been hard at work preparing for your return, creating an environment that fosters curiosity, growth, and success.
As a reminder, we will be sending out a Torrey Hill monthly newsletter the first Friday of every month. These newsletters contain important information regarding all the exciting events that are taking place at Torrey Hill.
Below you will find important information regarding our attendance policy, popcorn Fridays, important calendar events, and breakfast and lunch information.
Lastly, I am very excited to get to know each of you and your students. I always have an open-door policy to meet, build connections, or discuss any questions you may have. Feel free to contact me at 810-591-3617, or rpowell@lakefentonschools.org.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Powell
Principal
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Daily attendance is very important to help your child learn and grow! We need your child here each day so that s/he does not miss important instruction and has a chance to grow not only academically, but socially as well! Of course, we know students will get sick. If they have a fever or are vomiting, they need to stay home. Some sniffles or a light cough, they can come to school. Please take a look at our handbook attendance policy:
5th Absence: A student who reaches their 5th unexcused absence will receive a phone call and letter stating the consequences of additional accrued absences.
10th Absence: A student who receives their 10th unexcused absence will be placed on an attendance agreement. This requires a parent meeting with the principal.
15th Absence: A student who receives their 15th unexcused absence will be required to meet with the attendance liaison and school administration. Details of the circumstances will be documented and a plan of action to improve attendance will be developed.
20th Absence: After the 20th unexcused absence the principal will file an Educational Neglect petition in accordance with Michigan Compulsory Attendance laws. Educational Neglect addresses a parent/guardian failure to ensure his or her student’s regular attendance at school. Educational Neglect petitions usually involve children through age 11.
We urge you to think about the importance of your child’s school attendance when making doctor appointments and planning vacations. Take a look at the graphic below which shows how absences can affect your child’s success.

FIRST VIEW BUS TRACKING
Pick Up Lane-CAR TAGS
We will be using Car Tags again this year for our pick up lane students. Many of you are familiar with these tags if you participated in the West Shore process in the past. You will only need ONE tag per building if participating in both lanes. To obtain your tag please stop in the office during Open House. If you still have a sign from last year or West Shore they are the same, please use it this year.
Change In End Of Day Pick Up?
Any bus changes must be approved by the principal at least 24 hours in advance. Students are not allowed to take alternative buses home unless their is an emergency situation. Please do not use bus transportation as a means of transporting friends for after school social or extracurricular events. Our buses have capacity limits and we cannot add students to bus routes. We care about the safety of our students and therefore must closely monitor ridership on our school buses.
Traffic Safety
We realize the morning and afternoon can be busy times in our parking lots at West Shore and Torrey Hill. Please help with traffic concerns by avoiding crossing over the incoming lane (AM) and outgoing lane (PM) at West Shore (Lahring entrance).
Also, if you enter Torrey Hill from Torrey Rd., please remember you can only turn right at the flagpole. Some are turning left where the sign, "No Left Turn", is located. Thank you for your support.
