FEBRUARY 2020
A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL WILLIAMS
Hello Skyhawk Families!
Happy February! January is always a fast moving month, especially when we start back from winter break on the 6th. Please take a moment to look through the rest of this newsletter for some upcoming dates. There are plenty of opportunities for our students to get involved in activities at Skyridge. As I have discussed, involvement can be a great way to build confidence and decrease anxiety.
I also want to bring special attention to one of those opportunities. On February 12, Jennifer McMillan will be in our Library from 6-7 PM talking about the adolescent brain and the importance of learning how to deal with failure and struggle at this stage in life. If you have not heard Jennifer talk, you are in for a treat. Couple that with the message that she is delivering and it will be an hour well spent. With everything that is happening in a middle school brain, students will make mistakes and poor choices. It is important in their growth to allow them to experience the consequences of those choices when the stakes are much smaller. I hope that you will be able to join us for this great event.
Finally, I want to take a moment to talk to our 8th grade parents. Keep watching our upcoming events for activities around the transition to high school. We have three great choices here in the Camas School District and beginning in March, students will get to experience those choices and will begin preparing for the next stage in their educational journey. It can be a stressful and exciting time for students and parents, but we will work hard to limit that stress and will be communicating regularly with you about everything that you need to know. Stay tuned for more of this information beginning later this month and moving into March.
Once again, please take a moment to peruse the rest of this newsletter. Feel free to contact us here in the main office if you have any questions.
Go Skyhawks!
