MPES Learning At Home
Keeping our Students Engaged
April 14 - April 17
Message from Mrs. Mamon
Below you will find links to the learning opportunities that our teachers have developed for the week of April 14 - April 17. These lessons, learning activities and assignments are for review, practice and enrichment. The plans include a blend of activities that can be done either with or without access to technology. Our goal is to provide ideas to keep students engaged and learning during this time. While these activities are for review and enrichment only, we do encourage students to participate to keep their learning going! Please reach out to me or your child's teacher if you have questions about any of the learning activities or online programs.
Based on feedback we received from parents, students and teachers, we have made some adjustments to our MPES Learning At Home activities template.
- We will continue to provide learning activities that can be done either with or without access to technology.
- Activities needing technology access can be found in one spot by clicking on the MPES At Home Learning Links button at the top of each grade level page.
- All learning activities listed in the boxes do not need access to technology to complete.
- Learning activities are not listed for each specific day of the week. Instead, activities are listed for the week. This is to allow flexibility and choice for you to design your child's learning each week in a way that works for your family.
- Activities for Specials and STEM are now included in each grade level learning plan. They are no longer separate.
- The format for the weekly learning plans will look the same for every grade PreK-5 to help make things easier to follow for families with children in multiple grades.
I also wanted to highlight some important elementary information from the MPCS Continuous Learning Plan that was shared with families by Dr. McDade prior to Spring Break.
- At the recommendation of VDOE, work assigned after March 13 will not be graded. We will continue to provide learning opportunities for students for review and enrichment through available resources.
- Teachers will provide meaningful feedback on student work through the end of school year. While some of our resources may provide automatic scoring for completed work, these scores are provided to students as a means of measuring personal progress and should not be regarded as a grade.
- Individual teachers will communicate to students and families when they will be electronically accessible to students.
- Parents and students should contact individual teachers for specific learning needs.
- Special Education teachers will continue to work individually with parents and students to support learning based on each child's specific needs.
- The learning activities provided between now and June 2020 in the MPES Learning At Home newsletters will not introduce or teach any new content. Elementary teachers will develop modules that will be incorporated into the 2020-2021 school year to target any content that was not taught this school year due to the closure.
The complete plan can be found here: MPCS COVID-19 Continuous Learning Plan
The Virginia Department of Education has issued an online guide for parents and other caregivers. COVID-19: A Parent Guide for School-Aged Children is available on their website and includes information on in-home learning activities, social distancing and other topics.
Please continue to send pictures of our students learning at home or spending time with their families. I love seeing and sharing them! Snap a picture and send it to me at stacey.mamon@mpark.net.
I hope that you are all staying healthy and safe during this time.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mamon
Suggested Elementary Learning Schedule (from MPCS Continuous Learning Plan)
New Learning Resource - VA TV Classroom
Superintendent of Public Instruction James Lane announced this week that four Virginia public media stations will broadcast teacher-led classroom instruction aligned with the commonwealth’s academic standards into homes across the state beginning Monday, April 13.
The “VA TV Classroom” on-air schedule is as follows:
- K-3 instruction airs from 1-2 p.m. with Standards of Learning-aligned content provided by WHRO Public Media. “Learn to Grow with WHRO” segments will be 15 minutes in length and led by teachers.
- WETA (our local PBS station) – WETA PBS Kids: via antenna 26.3, Comcast 266, Cox 801, Verizon FiOS 472 and RCN 38
This resource is a great way to support your child's learning!
MPCS Food Distribution Continues
MPCS is providing prepackaged grab-and-go meals at no charge to all children, age 18 and under. Meal pickup will take place on Tuesdays at the main entrance of Manassas Park High School between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
In order to minimize the number of times parents must bring their children to the distribution site, a weekly set of prepackaged breakfasts and lunches will be provided on Tuesdays. All meals will be the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
For the safety of everyone, it is important to follow the guidance supplied by our volunteers to maintain safe social distancing practices and vehicle passage.
Please join us for a MPCS Division-Wide Spirit Week!
