Canyon Springs math teacher wins Pesky Award for Inspirational Teaching
Mr. Brushafer, Canyon Springs High School math teacher, was nominated by Boise State University College of Education Senior and former student, Amber Alexander. Mr. Brushafer’s unwavering, positive spirit and his unique ability to see his students’ strengths despite their struggles gave Amber the confidence she needed to learn and eventually excel at math. Mr. Brushafer’s commitment to serving at-risk students has earned him the respect and admiration of many students who have taken classes from him.
Congratulations Mr. Brushafer, we are grateful for your dedication and commitment to the youth of Canyon Springs High School!
Celebrate Computer Science Everywhere!
All across the District, Caldwell students had the opportunity to "Celebrate Computer Science Everywhere" in honor of Computer Science Education Week. All of our elementary school students were encouraged to code using programs like Code.org, Kodable, or Tynker. And... Van Buren's third grade participated in a live coding activity with NASA.
Syringa Middle School had the honor of hosting Governor Brad Little as he made his statewide proclamation for Computer Science Week and Hour of Code. Governor Little then joined some of our 8th grade students to write code as they design their very own Google logo using Google's CS First resources.
At our high schools, Mr. Chad Lawson (computer teacher @ CSHS) and Mr. Erik Kendall (computer science teacher @ CHS) are partnering with the Boise State Computer Science department to host BSU student guest speakers and encourage our students to consider a career in technology.

Have you heard your students talk about their 'Toolbox', or using their 'tools'? Ever wonder what this is all about? Lewis & Clark and Wilson Elementary Schools are proud to teach their students skills in self-regulation and interpersonal communication through the Toolbox Project: Tools for Learning, Tools for Life. We encourage you to ask your children how they use their 'tools' at school, and we encourage you to help your children use these tools at home too! They are a great way to encourage students to positively manage conflict, self-assess, self-reflect, and self-regulate.
Internet Safety Tips
The U.S. Department of Justice is sharing helpful tips to consider when discussing internet, phone, and texting safety. Please consider having a discussion with your student regarding any of the items you believe apply to your family!
