After careful consideration and in consultation with Katy ISD safety and security, we have decided not to reopen the gate located at the intersection of Spruce Tree Line Trail and Coopers Ridge Way.

While I understand that this will impact your routines, please know that this decision is rooted in our commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for all members of our school community. Although I know that this might not be the answer you were hoping for, I know that the community will continue to support the campus and our desire to put student safety first.

Students will be focusing and learning about one character trait a month around the school and in their classrooms. On the first Wednesday of each month, we will kick off a new trait. All teachers and students are encouraged to wear (any shade) of the color for the month.

The district is requiring all volunteers serving on campus during the instructional day to register with the district through its Raptor security system.

Raptor ensures quick and easy volunteer registration allowing individual volunteers to create and manage a personal volunteer profile.
In addition, the Raptor Volunteer Initiative will:

• Provide an additional layer of protection for Katy ISD students, staff, volunteers, and campus visitors
• Unite all district volunteers into one Katy ISD volunteer community
• Measure and communicate the positive impact of Katy ISD volunteer organizations

The volunteer registration requirement will extend to all volunteers serving on or off-campus, during or after the instructional day effective January 2023

We are searching for campus mentors!

The KEYS Mentoring program (Keep Encouraging Youth toward Success) has been so helpful to our students in Katy ISD. I'm sure you are aware that mentoring creates a positive impact in youth’s lives. They find more self-confidence, self-esteem, and are able to create big goals for themselves. Our goal is for every student who needs a mentor to have one. No waitlists, or students who go without because we are short. If you are open to mentoring or know someone who would love to mentor at Schmalz, please complete or share the application at the link below and be sure to choose Schmalz as your mentor campus. Likewise, if you would like your student to have a mentor, please contact one of the school counselors for more information.

Parents must complete the online registration process through Katy ISD's PowerSchool Registration website. Only students whose registration paperwork is complete will be offered the opportunity to be screened for EL eligibility or prekindergarten program eligibility.

Please note that due to the limited number of spaces, campus placement is determined by availability at the time of your completed registration process. If the home campus is full, PreK students will be redirected to the closest available campus.
