APRIL IS AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH!!!
Greetings Ardmore Family,
We are in our final quarter of the school year and one of our most difficult quarters. Our third, fourth, and fifth graders will be taking “The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program” (MCAP) assessments and the primary grades will be completing their final year assessments. MCAP testing will be April 25th through May 5th. I am asking our Parents/Guardians to assist us in finishing this school year strong! This requires us to make sure students arrive at school on time, complete all assignments, go to bed on time, and eat a healthy breakfast each day.
April is World Autism Month! It is an opportunity to increase your understanding and acceptance of people with Autism while sparking change in schools, communities, medical facilities, and businesses. At Ardmore Elementary, we are committed to standing together to make a world of difference for people on the spectrum. The attached link provides families with Helpful Autism Information and Resources. Please visit the link, World Autism Month, to find a variety of ways to support and participate in supporting Autism Awareness.
Third quarter report cards will be released Tuesday, April 11th and the Third Quarter Awards Ceremony information will provided at a later date. Please be sure to review your child/children's report card and reach out to the teacher if you have questions.
ATTENDANCE REMINDER:
School attendance remains a priority for Prince George’s County Public Schools and Ardmore Elementary School. Our goal is for every student to attend school every day and on time. We understand that some absences are unavoidable due to health concerns or other circumstances. However, when students miss too much school — for any reason— they fall behind academically and can be considered chronically absent or even habitually truant. Chronic absenteeism is defined as any absence that exceeds more than 10 percent of the 180-day school year. Habitually truant means is a student is unlawfully absent from school for a number of days or portion of days equal to or in excess of 20% of the school days. Excused or unexcused absences affect our school’s attendance ratings.
Lawful absences will be given make-up work to be completed in an allotted amount of time; unlawful absences are not provided with make-up work and will result in a grade of "0" for the missing days assignments.
To help your child achieve the most from their learning experience, make school attendance a priority! Download Administrative Procedure 5113: Student Attendance, Absence and Truancy
